Bangor’s most famous resident is the legendary Stephen King. However, just because the king of Thrill literature resides here doesn’t mean Bangor is a scary place to visit. In fact, the opposite is quite true. Ironically though Mt. Hope Cemetery located in Bangor claims to be the oldest garden cemetery in the nation. Nevertheless, Bangor offers quite a bit for any traveler. It is well known for its many churches and beautiful Victorian homes. Be entertained by the performing arts that thrive here or enjoy the annual State Fair held in July. Another commanding presence is the impressive Paul Bunyan statue. Standing at over 30 feet Mr. Bunyan’s ‘roots’ run deep in Bangor. See, it’s not that scary at all.
