Explore the small islands, go kayaking, sailing or even a little fishing. There are wonderful beach communities located up and down the coast that provide fantastic activities, delicious meals and quaint shops to do a little shopping. If you’re an avid shopper you’ll be happy to know there’s a 24-hour L. L. Bean store as well as many fantastic outlet malls and quaint boutiques.
Many associate lighthouses with Maine, and for good reason. One of the most recognized lighthouses in the world is located here. History buffs will truly enjoy touring the lighthouses that have guided the paths of many ships for well over a century. There are beautifully preserved buildings throughout the state, including the impressive State Capitol building. Today you’ll find many of the restored places house wonderful art galleries, restaurants and coffee shops. At the end of a long day of exploring you’ll be able to feast on fresh lobster and a nice glass of Moxie. Not sure what Moxie is? This full-bodied soda is either adored or despised, depending on the palate that’s consuming it. Pick up a Stephen King novel, who is a Maine native, enjoy a Moxie and love your vacation in this beautiful state.
