Lexington Hotel Guide Cheap Lexington Hotels

The beautiful countryside and rolling hills make for a stunning backdrop to the wealth of activity you can experience in Lexington. This fantastic city is in the heart of Bluegrass and is affectionately known as the Horse Capital of the World. Louisville is only a short drive away and although it tends to draw most of the race fans out for the derby, the diehards know that the talented horses are bred in Lexington. But even if youre not a fan of horses, Lexington has a lot to offer fantastic basketball games, great entertainment, and peanut butter thats right, peanut butter. The JIF plant here makes a lot of peanut butter so make sure you take some home. A bit too sophisticated for that? Lexington is also well known for its bourbon. So really, whatever your vacation needs might be, Lexington is a great choice.

The Lexington Center is an amazing complex where you can see a great performance, do some damage to the credit cards or watch a basketball game. It includes the Lexington Opera House, which is the venue for the performing arts as well as a convention center that hosts many conferences and exhibits. If you love basketball, try to catch a game at the famous Rupp Arena where the Wildcats draw out thousands and thousands of fans in fact, itll be pretty hard to get tickets but theyre definitely worth trying for. Named after Adolph Rupp, who won the second most college basketball games in his 41 years of coaching, this basketball court puts the fear into the opponents and the dedicated fans are definitely the reason. The Lexington Center also has many great shops. This complex will please anyone interested in a great evening out.

The American Saddle Horse Museum is pleased to be the stomping grounds for the Kentucky Horse Park, which showcases the American Saddle bred. Learn more about the Kentucky Derby, the roles the American Saddle bred played in US history and see an amazing collection of artifacts, photos and artwork. Considering Lexington is known for its horses, you should try to get a tour of a local ranch. With over 400 working horse farms located throughout the area you should be able to find one that has a spot open for you.

One of the most famous homes in all of Lexington is the Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate. Henry Clay was major landowner but one of his many notable jobs was running for the presidency. Spreading across 20-acres, this fantastic estate has impressive grounds that showcase what his home was like. Perhaps a visit to the local library isnt on your top ten things to see while on vacation. However, the public library located on East Main Street is worth checking out (get it checking out?). It claims to have the worlds largest ceiling clock and anything that has the worlds largest whatever is worth stopping in for. The area surrounding the clock is filled with artistic drawings as well. Another odd tourist destination would be the Lexington Cemetery, however it has an impressive collection of beautiful trees, some of which include cherry and crabapples trees, and many wonderful flower gardens. Some of the more famous graves here include Adolph Rupp, famed University of Kentucky basketball coach, Henry Clay and John Cabell Breckinridge, Vice President of the United States.

What else is Lexington known for? Bourbon. There are a few places located throughout the city that provide you with samples of this fine drink. Another local favorite is the mint julep but it needs to be made by someone who knows what theyre doing. But if you get one thats been made just right, youll be treated to a very refreshing beverage. Prefer beer? The Alltechs Lexington Brewery Company was established in 1794 and continues to brew some great ale.

Although you may cringe when you hear about crinolines, corsets and hoops, youll absolutely love wandering through the Victorian Square. Located in downtown Lexington, youll see beautiful buildings that date back to the 1880s. Its also a great place to get sushi hey, even Lexington can put a twist on the tried, tested and true. In general though, the downtown area has many fantastic restaurants to get your stomach growling. If youre a bit early for your reservation you could explore some of the shops in the area.

Enjoy exploring all that Lexington has to offer whether you get to see a game, tour a farm or simply relax and enjoy a peanut butter sandwich... or glass of bourbon.
