Classy! - posted on 10/04/2006
Well, I only did a very short one night stay arriving late. The european style and very professional service was top notch. My room fridge did not work though. I did not ask them to fix it but commented upon checkout.
A disappointment - posted on 07/15/2006
I was expecting a high-quality, well-maintained property given the rating and price. Instead, I walked into a very small lobby with no other common areas, no pool, tiny fitness facility, average reception service. The elevators were in an embarrassing condition as well. While the room was adequate, there was peeling wallpaper and very small quarters. The positives were that it's in a prime location, connected to the mall and offers free bottled water and turndown service.

Old-English feel. Very clean. Execellent auxillary staff (housekeeping, valets). Avoid delays by calling to confirm registration and room availability. Also ask about parking. Parking extra ($20/day). Service at in-house restaurant slow. Other restaurants very close.

First, you need a good bed and quiet mechanical systems. Canterbury has it! Second, a good staff from the front door to the back door. Canterbury has it. Need more attention to details; food trays left in hall for entire day; Silver service in dining room badly in need of polishing; creamer was black.

What a unique hotel in a great setting. A boutique style hotel in the middle of downtown convenient to everything. And Great Doorman!!
Tucked away in Downtown Indianapolis - posted on 01/10/2006
The Canterbury Hotel is an oasis tucked away in downtown Indy. The rooms are cozy, but tasteful. The Restaurant and The Bar are quiet and have excellent food and service. We enjoyed leaving our coats in the room and going through a walkway to Circle Center Mall. We had a relaxing experience.

If you are looking for a small quaint hotel that is also conveniently located in the center of Downtown Indy, the Canterbury is for you. My room was comfortable and cozy with ample space for one...maybe on the smaller side for two. This is definitely an older hotel, so it lacks some of the conveniences of more modern diggs. But if more personalized service interests you, you will enjoy your experience here. The staff was warm, helpful and very attentive.

If you are looking for a hotel with a great location to many entertainment and restaurant locations, this is it. Most points of interest are within a short walk of the hotel. The hotel restaurant is also well regarded by locals and the food is excellent. The nightly turn down service adds a personal touch and it is nice to stay at a place that has character, as opposed to the "cookie cutter" chain hotels.

A few small snags - posted on 01/10/2005
We did not get the promised turndown service with chocolate the first night, and also no one came to make up our room one day. Bedspread had a hole in it and though we requested a wakeup call the day we left, it never happened. (Good thing I woke up on my own!) However, all staff were super friendly and quick to serve and the lobby is gorgeous.
