Quaint European Style Hotel - posted on 03/06/2007

I highly recommend this quaint little hotel in Chicago. The location can't be beat! Across from the Hancock Building and 3 blocks aways from the Red Line train, this little hotel was perfect for us, a young couple. The rooms are small, but nicely furnished and we had a GREAT view of the Hancock. Friendly staff, clean rooms and facilities, great attached restaurant. Great little hotel overall!

The Tremont Chicago - posted on 10/30/2006

The tremont is a very old hotel that needs several room improvements. The wallpaper was falling off the walls. There was mold in the bathroom. The rooms overall are VERY SMALL. The first night we didn't even have a fitted sheet on our bed, just a regular sheet that didn't fit correctly.

for as much as you pay to stay here, it is completely not worth it. the front desk staff is very unaccomadating and the rooms are not that clean.

Great Location and thats about all - posted on 09/25/2006

Great loaction near Miracle Mile. Ditka's restaurant attached. The hotel is crarmped, dingy and in need of major re-do. Tiny rooms, cheap bedding. Not worth it at ANY price, much less what they charge.

Chicago Vacation - posted on 08/14/2006

My stay at the Tremont Hotel during my Chicago trip was very memorable...The cozy and intimate atmosphere of the hotel made me feel comfortable...The "bed and breakfast" feel of my hotel room was very inviting...Not to mention that the location of the hotel next to restaurants and shopping areas was very convenient...Definitely a hotel worth staying at again...

Big Disappointment - posted on 08/02/2006

Maybe I'm unrealistic, but I have expectations for $* a night...this place didn't meet them. Don't bother looking for ice/soda machines...they don't have them. Enjoy the sauna-like atmosphere of the slow dingy elevator. Rooms could laughingly be called clean. Clerk intentionally put us in a smaller room, even though we had prepaid for a King bed, then they got snippy when we asked to be moved. This place would be dead without it's location and Ditka's Restaurant (awesome food!!).

A Decent Stay - posted on 07/26/2006

The hotel was very convenient, located on the north end of the downtown area. It suited our purposes. There were very few amenities to the hotel and/or room. The most notable was the lack of coffee machine in the room. They also didn't have computers available for use by it's guests, which would have come in handy too.

awful and overpriced - posted on 06/16/2006

We paid over $*/night for: tiny room; next to noisy elevator; no curtain or privacy glass in bathroom; moldy, mildewed bathroom; peeling wallpaper; uncleaned room when we returned to room at 5:30 pm; non-working fridge; no mini-bar; no in-room coffee maker and coffee only offered downstairs; no place for breakfast; cheap bathroom towels; heavy scented candles in lobby to mask dingy, musty smell; etc etc should I go on? When I asked to speak to a manager, was told there is no on-site manager! Would never stay there again if it were offered for free.

The location is spectacular but the rooms are terribly rundown--definitely need redoing. Staff very helpful, even refrigerated my leftover pizza for me! Starbucks right across street.

Great Location - posted on 05/31/2006

This hotel is nice; however, expect to pay for every service: local calls $1, overnight parking $38. Broadband only available in the lobby and hard-wired. Mike Ditkas Restaurant in the building.

Not worth the $$ - posted on 05/27/2006

First, you can't check in until 3 (kinda late) and second - they charge you to hold your bags until 3 (!) We got back at 3:30 & they didn't have a room. Put us in the "suites" section with a kitchenette - but NOTHING in there. Not a mug, glass or fork. No coffee maker - no way to boil water. Stove? Yes. Pots, no. Huh? No mini-bar - it's a step above a motel, folks but twice the $$. Oh well.

A Pleasant Experience - posted on 04/25/2006

This hotel was not bad at all, I expected much worse. It's just an old building that needs some maintance work and updates. The location is awesome and the staff is very nice and helpful.

You could do a lot better - posted on 03/27/2006

This is a very poorly maintained hotel. Wallpaper peeling, stained carpet, missing lamp in pathroom, old worn bed, broken and worn furniture. The criteria noted for a 4 star rating clearly haven"t been met in 10+ years. Even the fire exit maps were inaccurate. I suspect the owner is planning on ripping the place down.

I have stayed in better/worse - posted on 03/12/2006

I have stayed in better and I have stayed in worse. The tub mildew was unsitely, only 1 of the bulbs worked in the bathroom where the exhaust fan had the sound of a missle. The location for downtown was great.

Enjoyed My Stay - posted on 01/03/2006

As an older landmark hotel, it is in need of some work, particularly in the bathrooms where wallpaper was pealing near the floor and the grout needed a good cleaning. The overall room though was pleasant. It is obvious that some work is being done at the hotel with scaffolding surrounding the front. Hopefully they will do some work on the rooms themselves so that the wonderful reputation of this classic hotel will remain high. The cost for a local phone call was a bit too high, it should be free or less.

Attention to Detail - posted on 12/07/2005

The room was small, but the bed was fine. Staff was very friendly. But the tub was mildew stained and the drain so clogged that the tub filled ankle deep during a shower. No vending machines, no ice, no mini-frig. And a two block walk to get a cold Diet Coke! May go back because the price is right and the location wonderful. But I'll bring a cooler of beverages!

Avoid It - posted on 12/01/2005

This was by far the worst hotel we have EVER stayed in. The ceiling was crumbling in, their was mold in the shower, stains on the sheets, sticky carpet, broken mirror, no vending machines. Had to walk 3 blocks to the Walgreens to get a bottle of water. Stay in the suburbs and take the El in if you need to save money, this place is just AWFUL.

Cheap, Dirty Hotel - posted on 11/25/2005

The shower was moldy, the furniture had an obvious coating of dust and the wallpaper in the bathroom was ppeling off of the wall. I was mortified! I would NEVER rate this as a four star hotel.

gross! - posted on 11/16/2005

My wife wanted to kill me when she saw the bathroom. Missing tile, mold in the shower/bathtub. Great location but would have rather paid an extra hundred dollars for a clean room and a luxury bed.

THE WORST - posted on 10/20/2005

I checked out immediately even though I had paid in full for 4 nights. The hotel is unpleasant -- dirty and a cheap bed that reminds me of a local Y. Not a typical Starwood or 4 stars by any definition. No mini-bar or room service and the Ditka restaurant only opens at 11 am to service the guests.

Loved it - posted on 06/03/2005

My wife and I loved the hotel. It is not too large and it is in a prime area to go where you want to. It is also connected to Mike Ditka's Restaurant which is a plus.

The first room we were in was a queen,we requested a king and there were spider webs in the corners of the ceilings. Second room, we could feel the springs thru the mattress. Third room transferred to not much better. The hotel was dirty,nasty...paint was chipping and wallpaper was coming off...not what I expected for downtown Chicago...I'm a navtive Chicagoan and I was very embarassed when my entourage and I arrived at the Tremont...spend your money elsewhere.

great location - posted on 03/13/2005

You look out at Michigan Ave. and the Hancock building. Mike Ditka's was next door with a beautiful bar and great food. There is also a starbucks across the street and subway station a couple a blocks away. I guess when I go on vacation, I'm enjoying the experience and not surveying the condition of the wallpaper!!!

My experience... - posted on 02/24/2005

This hotel is misrepresented on every website as a four star hotel. At best, it should be reclassified as a two star hotel. The rooms are dirty. The furniture is beat up. The wall paper is falling off, and moldy in spots. The bathroom was disgusting, dirty with mold in areas around the tub. The hallways are worn, carpet torn, and elevator ancient. The bedding was worn and had holes in the sheets and the bedspread. They are understaffed, over-priced, and should be considered a health hazard.

Could be better - posted on 10/13/2004

desk staff were not helpful and seemed unconcerned about line of people waiting. Manager sttod and watched as one clerk handled all. Our assigned room was not made up at 6:30 PM. Reassigned to suite which was nice. Small slow elevators
