Overall, a great stay - posted on 05/17/2007

I stayed with my wife at the City Center Hotel, and it was a good value for what I paid. The rooms were clean and the staff very friendly. The location was easy walking distance within most magnificent mile attractions. The pool was nice, but you had to walk to a fitness center (all indoors) and sign in with a pass from registration. But overall, we will stay there again.

So-So - posted on 05/16/2007

We made this reservation at the last minute since our plan was cancelled due to bad weather. We had no luggage and asked for a few necessary items be brought to our room; we were told they would be delievered by 6am and never were. The showers look horrible and need to be remodeled or regrouted. The beds were fabulous as were the pillows.

Great location convenient to Michigan Ave as well as Navy Pier - shower on the weak side and sinks low for someone over 6'.

Good, Clean Hotel with Great Location - posted on 11/04/2006

My husband and I have stayed here a couple of times, and this hotels meets all basic needs with a great location to the Michigan Avenue sites. Room was very clean and in good repair, so were halls and public areas. Has a large comfortable, rather fancy lobby-where you can sit and read or relax. Pleasant service, and decent parking garage. NO COMPLAINTS. (Room views aren't the greatest, but it depends on room floor/direction.) Generally, a very good choice for cost and near a Dominic's Gourmet Grocery Store, where you can buy wine, Starbucks coffee, treats, anything you like.

Clean it up! - posted on 08/29/2006

The Holiday Inn Chicago City Centre has gone downhill a bit. While not a glamorous hotel, the City Centre has a great location and the price was right. We had stayed there before and were satisfied. This time around, our room had carpet stains and a foul odor upon checkin. The toilet seat fell off and the room door handle often did not work, forcing us to call Security to let us in the room. You can feel a drop in quality over the years.

Yuk - posted on 08/16/2006

We booked the Holiday Inn because of the reviews that were here. However, our room was quite dirty. The hotel is obviously old, which was not an issue. The issue was the "junk" that had not been cleaned out of the corners of the bathroom, the smears of hairgel and who knows what else on the bottom of the bathroom counter. This room had not been cleaned correctly in a very long time. These were old marks and stains. I was very glad that my children were not with us this trip. I will not stay there ever again.

Just OK - posted on 07/23/2006

The location of this hotel was fantastic. The pool was really nice, but we always had to call for towels. The rooms were clean and nicely made up. Parking was a pain. You had to go to the lobby then up another elevator to the garage and they weren't set up to let you bring luggage carts to the garage. The staff wasn't very responsive to our needs. The elevator was the biggest pain. One morning there was only one elevator running. The restaurant was very over priced for what we got, even with kids eat free. So, it was nice, but not great.

Don't stay - posted on 06/30/2006

Chicago' s views are just the best unless its of the parking gargage next door. Bathrm dirty, one bar of soap for both sink and bath. Coffee maker and only decaf coffee, no sugar. My son found a bug on his pillow. YUK!!! Will not stay here again, regardless of the great location.

great place to stay - posted on 06/17/2006

You don't think that a Holiday Inn would be as fancy, but this place is surprisingly very nice. The staff are EXCELLENT and they are incredibly helpful! The beds were comfy and the rooms are comfortable! Best part was the proximity to all the shopping. Made the girls trip a delight.

Where is the indoor pool - posted on 06/01/2006

My children, the oldest is 20, wanted to go to the indoor pool and it was very hard to find and the desk folks were not helpful, and one child had to be sent back upstairs for shoes. The indoor pool is actually part of the athletic club next door, and they were not welcoming to hotel guests. The outdoor pool was beautiful, but there is no hot tub.

Chicago trip - posted on 03/23/2006

When we arrived, they told us our reservation had been cancelled. Therefore, the rate offered to us online was not available and we had to pay $40.00 more a night to stay. We also wanted a non-smoking room and were put in a smoking room, which reeked for our entire stay. The restaurant food was bland and the service was rushed. Our cream was sour for coffee, and we had to ask for this to be replace twice, before the cream was fresh.

Great Staff!! - posted on 03/07/2006

Everything was clean and the staff went above and beyond. The pool and work out facility is the best I've ever seen. The restaurant was ok, but there are so many great restaurants near by, we never lacked for great food. Great location, also. I highly recomend.

Great Location & Price - posted on 03/01/2006

Reception had difficulty finding my "pre-paid" reservation (took about 15 min.), but otherwise a very enjoyable stay. Restaurant was above average and all staff were very courteous. Very good value. Have stayed there several times in recent years.

Excellent Value - posted on 02/12/2006

We couldn't have been more pleased. The staff is the most friendly and helpful we have ever encountered. The room was a nice size and clean. This hotel is an incredible value for the location, room, and hospitality!

Mediocre - posted on 02/02/2006

I travel a lot and have stayed here twice. This is a mediocre hotel. The staff here has always been a little slow and the parking situation is ridiculous. We had to wait 30 minutes for valet parking service (with no line). But the price is really good for the location so if you're traveling on a budget and don't plan on spending too much time in a hotel (who does anyway?) this is a decent place to stay.

Super friendly in the busy city - posted on 01/02/2006

Chicago is filled with busy people - not necessarily unfriendly, but just busy. However, this hotel is full of the friendliest people I have ever met! They are ready to help and eager to please - even the smallest guests are not overlooked! The staff certainly wants every guest to be satisfied!

What Could Have Been A Nightmare..... - posted on 10/22/2005

A family weekend to watch the Cardinal baseball team play the Cubs could have been an absolute nightmare and the staff made it a dream. Our first day, we left the hotel and returned to find our room door open. Front desk immediately sent security, offered us another room, ( which they upgraded) Free breakfast vouchers and then offered the room free of charge for our remaining stay. The door lock mechanism was faulty and the door did not close and lock properly. It was very upsetting, but the way they handled things would make me want to stay again.

Quick trip to Chicago - posted on 10/02/2005

The individuals working at this hotel were wonderful, especially the IT guy. I was having problems connecting on-line and he not only fixed the problem but he called later to check that I wasn't having any additional problems. The consierge, desk clerk, bellman and maid were pleasant and helpful as well. In addition, the location is GREAT. I booked this hotel because of the reviews and I am glad I did.

Holiday Inn good for a holiday stay - posted on 08/14/2005

This Holiday Inn is well located close to great restaurants, shopping and attractions in Chicago. The rooms are state of the art, well appointed and equipped. Very comfortable. The service is friendly though not as quick or responsive as it should be at times. Hotel restaurants and food service is quite good. The outdoor pool and sundeck are a nice touch especially in the midst of a typical humid Chicago summer.

Had a terrific time at this hotel. The location was outstanding as was the service. The consierge had information about any city activity and was amazingly friendly and helpful. The indoor pool was a little inconvenient for families, but the health club was great for adults. We will definitely saty there again!

The indoor pool is not always available to the children...and the children using the indoor pool is why I chose this hotel. I would like to have known this unusual indoor pool arrangement up-front.

Chicago First Time - posted on 07/14/2005

We travel extensively and picked this place because of price and feedback from other travellers. Great location, good price, excellent staff. Room was large and comfortable and great conceirge service. There is a pool but we did not use it. There is an internet cafe on Ohio Street just west of hotel on north side...avoid the business centre in the hotel, too expensive. A 4 rating overall as I have stayed as some magnificient places (Belaggio) and it is not worthy of a 5! Value for price however, it would be hard to compete in Chicago.
