Reminiscent of the classic Hawaiian hideaways of the 1920s and 1930s, the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa is located along the soothing white-sand beaches of the island’s south shore. This 565-room luxury resort has award-winning restaurants, a super spa, numerous swimming options and a well-equipped business center. There is an 18-hole Robert Trent designed golf course next to the resort and close by are museums, art galleries and shopping. The resort makes a spectacular venue for a wedding with over 65,000 square feet of indoor function space or large formal gardens for an outdoor ceremony.

This is a honeymooner’s paradise. Many couples who have stayed here were amazed at the quality of the amenities and wonderful service. Words of advice from former guests: The more expensive rooms, with a view of the ocean, are worth the extra money. Families who have stayed here said they never needed to leave the resort since there was so much to do. Minor gripe was that since this is such a large resort there is a lot of walking involved. Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort & Spa Accommodations

The least expensive rooms have views of the gardens or mountains and cover 606 square feet. There is a choice of one king-size or two queen-size beds. The large marble bathrooms come with separate tub and shower and a hairdryer. Amenities include beverage chillers, coffee maker, Hawaiian Kona coffee, large work area with Internet access, satellite TV and in-room safe. Room service is available 24/7.

Amenities offered

The five-acre saltwater swimming lagoons have kayak and flotation rentals and there are two freshwater outdoor pools with connecting river pools. The resort has three tennis courts, pro shop and mountain bike rentals. The health and fitness spa covers 40.000-square-feet and offers Hawaiian beauty therapies and fitness programs. The 18-hole Poipu Bay Golf Course, next to the resort, is home to the PGA Grand Slam. There are 10 restaurants and bars offering different cuisines and every night there is a grand luau.

From Lihue Airport (approximately 15 miles): Drive West, staying on Ahukini Road past the first stop light. Turn left at the next stop light (across from Kentucky Fried Chicken) onto Hwy 56. Stay to the right and continue on to Highway 50. Drive past Kukui Grove Shopping center on your left and proceed for 6.7 miles. Turn left at the Maluhia Junction (Tunnel of Trees) where the sign indicates a left-hand turn to Poipu and Koloa onto Hwy 520. Drive approximately 2 miles and turn left at Ala Kinoiki Road. Drive approximately 4 miles then turn left on Poipu Road. The resort is located at the end of Poipu Road (3 blocks) on the right. Guest check-in is the second drive on the right.
