the best for the less expensive - posted on 05/30/2007
This was my first time in Hawaii and I tried to plan one week stay not very expensive. This hotel was the best option, excellent location, beach, shopping, food, everything near and easy to find. If you want to save money and don`t have any bad surprises, go to Waikiki Sand Villa.
Good bang for your buck - posted on 05/15/2007
This hotel was conveniently located, staff was super friendly and helpful. Carpet was kind of old, bathroom was nothing fancy. Only bummer was the constant construction across the street (every morning at 5am)
Not too shabby - posted on 04/27/2007
I'd stay here again. The hotel is old, and while they've made nice efforts to update and re-do a lot, you just have to know that not everything is brand-new and shiny. Some hotels I've stayed in just make you feel gross, but I never felt that way here. They keep it clean, the staff was great and it's in a very convenient spot!

Stayed at the hotel for only 1 night. Checked out early and went to another hotel across the street. Rooms are too small and just didnt feel comfortable. Staff friendly.
Best Value in Waikiki - posted on 03/31/2007
Best budget hotel in Waikiki. Friendly staff. A few blocks from International Marketplace, restaurants, shopping and shows. Meets your basic travel needs for a clean room. Free wireless internet and low cost parking. Other than coffe and juice breakfast needs improvement. Would recommend this hotel for budget minded traveler.

A bit of a walk to the ocean... but, many shops conveniently located and near hotel.
Pro Bowl Weekend - posted on 02/21/2007
The room as enough of what we needed. Although we were used to a "king size", the bed arrangement was a good deal for "ProBowl" availablity. We found that it was no big deal that your location was on the cross road/Alawai etc. We were pleased with the location. Our past experience with other hotels were located on Kalakaua. We were still able to get out and take the stroll through Waikiki. In fact we saw more. On our last day, we even had a pleasant evening dining at Todai and walked back to the hotel with no problem. Yes, we will recommend and will plan to stay at your hotel again.
Great for the money - posted on 02/08/2007
The room is a good size with fridge (for milk and juice for the kids). 1Double and 1Twin beds. Careful around the pool. My daughter slipped on wet tiles and hit her head. Vallet parking only. Two short blocks from the beach. Great Hospitality Room with free internet. The only real negative was that I asked for a non smoking room and got one that stunk and they had no other rooms available. They did bring in an air purifier and cleared most of the smell out right away. Otherwise a great little place to crash. After all, it's Hawaii, you are not there to spend time in the hotel room.

This is a great hotel. Very close to the beach and the stores on Waikiki Beach. The staff is great and very friendly. Only valet parking is available for about $9.50/day. I would stay there again.

Hotel was great for the price. I have stayed in more expensive hotels in Waikiki and have not been this satisfied. Rooms were clean.
Great Hotel - posted on 12/27/2006

A Little Shabby but such a great deal - posted on 12/13/2006
A great hotel for the price. Hits: Large rooms, spacious and roomy, most come w/ a small fridge, great location very close to the beach. Great views of Diamond Head and the Ocean, friendly staff Misses: A little run down, carpets have path ways treaded down, and the furniture needs replaceing
A Suprise for the Money! - posted on 12/02/2006
Hotel was great! Rooms smelled good, enough space and great view! Atmosphere was great - there is a bar & internet cafe in lobby! Location is the best - 1 blk from Main st & 2 blks from beach! Breakfast is limited but it's something to start the day.. Would DEFINITELY go back & RECOMMEND!
Good place to stay - posted on 11/22/2006
The staff was very friendly, the room adecuate, the bathtub needs a little cleaning (clogged while I was there) but good place to stay overall for the price. 10 min. walking distance to the beach and everything else, especially loved the 'hospitality room' with free internet access and free wireless by the pool. Good hotel considering you don't go to Hawaii to spend your entire time in the hotel! (I wouldn't recommend it to families with kids tho)
Great Place to Stay - posted on 11/01/2006
My wife and I thought this wouldn't be that great of place based on other reviews. We were wrong it was great. The staff was great rooms were better than expected, the bar staff was friendly. The free internet terminals were a great help. Our room was poolside and i think they called it a mini-suite, and it was terrific at no extra charge. Microwave, sink and refrigerator. Clean, affordable and friendly staff, I don't know how much more you could ask for. The hospitality floor was another service that we were glad they offered, again at no charge.
Waikiki Sand Villa - posted on 09/15/2006
This hotel is very clean, and the personnel are all very friendly and helpful. There is an on site travel agent who was very helpful. The rooms were very adequate, spotless and smelled good. It is in walking distance of the beach, shops and restaurants. We enjoyed the private balcony and had a good view of the golf course, mountains, canal and a little view of the water. We were on the tenth floor so the street noise did not bother us. We would stay here agian.

I read all the reviews on this hotel before booking it. I don't know what people's standards are but this hotel was great for a budget hotel. Staff is really nice and the bartender downstairs makes a mean Lavaflow!

They could upgrade the air conditioning units & have the pool area close around midnight! They should also have an area where they serve breakfast, lunch & dinner, buffet style, that will attract more attention!
FATHER AND SON VACATION - posted on 08/04/2006
The hotel and staff were friendly. Nice and quiet. Four blocks from the beach. No incidents happened while we were there. The breakfast menu needs to change. Every single day was the same food. No exageration ! Overall, I would stay there again. With different breakfast menu !!!
A good bargain - posted on 07/24/2006
Not fancy but very affordable. My only real complaint was that they were often out of towels for the pool. The internet room with six computers was a great feature.

Was worried at first by some of the other travelers comments, but was on a budget so took a chance and booked reservations...Even though one of the evlevators were being worked on everything was beyond my expectations. perfect location and friendly staff...One guy said it perfect." I didnt come to hawaii to stay in my room".
Mediocre - posted on 06/13/2006
This hotel really suprised me I thought it would be a total dump, but it was not. The only down fall was that there was only one elevator working then on our last day both elevators stopped working, we had to go up seven flights of stairs. The walls are really, really thin. The price was right and the location was superb! I am not sure if I would stay there again. Cause none of the tour buses came to this hotel. No activities for the kids. The continental breakfast was bad. Do not waste your time. Have a real meal.
Cheery and Good Value - posted on 05/29/2006
I have stayed in many Waikiki hotels in this price class. Sand Villa is nice! The staff is friendly, the rooms are clean, the overall decor is adequate. True, the hotel is not new and could use some updating, but that's true of many of these hotels. Sand Villa's location is fine and I would stay here again. Ethernet access in every room is a plus. (Note: also quite nice is the hotel across the street, Aqua Aloha. Avoid the dreary, smelly Ocean Resort hotel.)
Nice Place - posted on 05/16/2006
All in all a very nice place for the price. Only a block away from city bus system, which takes you all over the island. Hint: If going to the Arizona Memorial, take the city bus for $2, it drops you right in front, and there's no cost to see the memorial. Room always clean, staff friendly and $2 happy hour beer is a good deal. Would stay here again without hesitation.
Pretty Good - posted on 04/28/2006
This place is great if you are looking for an affordable place in decent neighborhood and a clean room. Parking was $9.37 for up to 24 hours (not per visit). Free in room High-Speed Internet. Very short walk to beach\shopping\restaurants. Good AC unless you leave it off all day with the window open but it still cools down quickly. I was nervous when booking this place based on reviews but I was completely satisfied with everything once I arrived I will stay there again.

It was a wonderful stay. The coffee at the free breakfast is great. I loved the little bag of goodies with my name on it. The views were special, every day a different color-the sky.We had a good time.
Not Bad - posted on 03/29/2006
Before booking this hotel, I read the reviews. Just about the only thing people complained about was the lack of free in-room coffee after the first night. So, I brought my own coffee for the 4-cup Mr. Coffee machine. I recommend this hotel.
OK but could be better - posted on 02/17/2006
The first 2 rooms we were checked in to were unacceptable. #1 had a "wet paint" sign on the door and was not the non-smoking we'd requested. #2 had a tool box on the floor-obviously a repair in progress. #3 was fine. Clean. Large. Quiet. Coffee was only complimentary the first day. Breakfast was cheap and bad (toast, boxed mini doughnuts, watered down juice). Parking is valet only. We found a McDonalds close by, so were happy. Would consider staying again now that we know what to expect.
~JUST RIGHT for Budget Travelers~ - posted on 01/25/2006
went to oahu for a 6-day bday vacation with my boyfriend. we used our hotel as homebase and traveled all around the island. we found hotel staff to be very friendly and helpful, the room was simple/clean and had big drawers, the car valet for $9/day was very convenient, the pool was nice and updated, and the location was perfect. We enjoyed our stay there and the price was just right! we definitely will come again!
Simple hotel...but - posted on 01/17/2006
A hotel not suited for tall ppl...like 6'5. Also parking was terrible. Paid the parking fee, but came back one night at 3am was told parking full, need to find own parking. Spoke to manager only offered a sorry, and cant do nothing.
Good value for a 3 star hotel - posted on 01/14/2006
For a 3 star hotel, you get what you pay for. There is ample space in the room, which is well kept. The best thing is the free internet. You don't even need to bring your own computer as they are available in the hospitality lounge and cafe areas. Breakfast is simple and bad. They also stop serving at 9am. The hotel is right by the Ala Wai canal and is about one block too far from the main tourist area. This means that this area tends to be quiet. The travel desk lady is very friendly and helpful. The front desk staff are ok. It is hard to catch a cab from here.
Hotel needs renovation - posted on 12/27/2005
I was disappointed because I requested a non-smoking room and was placed and re-placed in smoking rooms. Air conditioning could not keep up with heat of sun through windows and room was hot. Hotel needs renovation but is affordable and near beach.
Good Value - posted on 12/18/2005
If you want a clean, safe place to shower and sleep, this is it. If you want ammenities and perks, this is NOT the place. Coffee for the in room coffee maker had to be purchased. Can't over emphasize nothing was free. Overall we were pleased and would consider staying there again. The place shows it's age, but we could tell that improvements are being made. Staff was super nice and helpful. Just a quick stroll from the beach.
good but not excellent - posted on 12/15/2005
Location is good, free internet is also good, rooms are quite ok. But free breakfast is awful. Btw, the parking is NOT free, costs $10/day!
Don't spend a lot of time in your room - posted on 12/02/2005
Sand Villa was least expensive of all hotels I checked. Parking is a problem (but is that way all over Honolulu/Waikiki). Jenna at front desk always smiling. Lots of outside noise (NW corner room). Not a hotel with many extras, but I didn't go to Hawaii to spend time in the room. Worth staying here if your plans for the hotel are mostly for sleep and home base.
Comfy and Cheap - posted on 11/16/2005
Not a fancy place...rooms and lobby are ugly...but location is very good. Beach 3 blocks. Staff was excellent. If your on a budget it's well worth the money. Rooms can fit 3 max comfy.
Not Too Happy - posted on 10/31/2005
Booked a premium corner room which we paid extra for. Got a corner room with a view of a cement cylinder. We tried to get our room changed the day we checked in however there was no "manager" there to help us. The next morning we were finally able to talk to a manager and were given a different room, however we had to check out of our room by 11:00 and we couldn't get our new room till after 3pm. We were staying for 3 nights. We should of had our room right away or been given money off our room since we were displaced for 4 hours with our luggage. We were given one tiny bar of soap for both the shower and the sink. No extra toilet paper was left. We made coffee one morning and couldn't do it again because housekeeping never left any more coffee for us. Also the tray from the day before had been left with all the trash on it.I guess you could say our stay was not a good one. I would not recommend the Waikiki Sands Villa to anyone for fear the same could happen to them. I waited a very long time for this trip to paradise and this hotel did not live up to it's advertisements. They call "boxed donuts" from the store a continental breakfast. A VERY DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER

Waikiki Sand Villa is excellent for budget travelers. It is a place to sleep and shower. Do not expect to be pampered, but you will have all the basics. Only three blocks from the beach and is near everything. You can't beat the location. We had a 10th floor room with balcony that could vsee the canal, so the view was great. We had problem with the toilet on the last day we stayed there, and the staff fixed it in a reasonable time frame. They only had valet parking.
Cheap - posted on 09/22/2005
You get what you pay for. This hotel had an issue with the AC unit when we arrived, but they promptly put us into another room. The decor is really old and the beds are a twin and full size, no queens. The place is cheap and decor is old. Like I said you get what you pay for.

Not too shabby - posted on 07/19/2005
I needed a place to stay fast and this came up. Price was right, location was good, rooms were clean and staff were helpfull. Only 3 blocks from Waikiki Beach, 1 block from the grocery store and take-away food. A coat of paint and the place would look a million bucks! Included breakfast was a bit dodgy (Australian's aren't used to coffee and donuts from breakky). Overall, would stay here again!
My experience... - posted on 07/17/2005
the internet photos advertised a lovely large hotel, wrong, well if you are 5' 2" at best. our a/c dripped onto our entrance all 10 days and the staff basically told us to rig it oueselves. the lobby as well as the parking garage were a joke, constantly bumping shoulders with other guests just to get by. and constantly avoiding the giant pillars in the matchbox parking garage, and yes we did finally hit our nice rental on one. oh yeah, the parking lot was also thier garbage dump and you can only imagine what it smelled like. so just keep browsing dont stay here
