I Was Seeing Pink But Feeling Red - posted on 04/17/2007

Disappointed! We paid top dollar (Christmas/New Year) Took our family and booked two rooms. Front Desk slow, room smelled and looked out at hotel nursery. Bathtub was straight 1960's. Could not get a beach chair even at 6:00 A.M. Pool closed too early. Very disappointing for cost. On leaving the hotel someone had charged drinks/lunch numerous days to our room. Wanted it cleared before we left and front desk said 5 minutes, 45 minutes I called down and anwser was it would take a couple of days to resolve. Rude to say the least.

Was Very Disappointed - posted on 02/23/2007

I always wanted to stay at this hotel. I have to admit I never would again. The rooms are old and not in good shape. I did not like the fact that the pool closed so early, and that they kicked you off of the beach at 6:00. I feel that there are other hotels that are better to stay at. This hotel should be rated a 2 for the condition of the rooms.

Nice Location, Lousy Service - posted on 12/14/2006

Stayed here 2 nights and wished we had stayed at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider OR Sheraton Princess instead. The customer service is marginal at best and we were placed in a "garden view" room which was actually a view of the hotel nursery/plant storage. The chaise lounges on the beach are great but they kick you off at 5-6pm, whether you're ready to leave or not. This is rude for the price they charge. And beware...this place is VERY PINK!

A huge dump! - posted on 11/16/2006

This hotel was a dump - we stayed in the older tower which is touted to have Old World charm. Yes well the charm stops at the door! Past the beautiful hardcarved doors to your room you will find a nasty, dusty room with old tattered furniture, and gross bathtubs to go with it! This place was disgusting!

Honeymoon in Hawaii - posted on 10/12/2006

The Royal Hawaiian couldn't have been better. The staff and hotel are top notch. The hotel and grounds are kept spotless. Our room was very spacious and well appointed. Everything was as promised. We would definately stay again.

business visit - posted on 08/25/2006

as starwood member I was put on that particular floor. the room was nice but the hotel staff was way too slow on getting the room clean and the hostess in the restaurant refused to let me use a public locked restroom. i actually had to request a manager intervention just to use a restroom. The outside lounge should provide one but they do not. The senior staff was professional in handling my complaints and i would stay there again because the homey atomsphere of the original building

This was a dump! - posted on 08/08/2006

We were VERY disappointed. Paid for 5 nights. First two nights, we had a lousy room with no view and totally away from the water. Had to pay to upgrade to one with a veranda for the last 3 nights. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone!

Will not go back again! - posted on 08/07/2006

It was one of the worst hotel that we've been to. And we thought being on the Starwood's list of classy hotels, will this be hotel one of the best, yet, we were so dis-appointed. Rooms are so old and smokey, needs to pay a lot more to upgrade to a better room. Definitely will not go back again.

Nice Old Hotel - posted on 08/06/2006

This was a great old hotel with alot of charm. The Mai Tai bar and beach front access were great. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Not every room has an ironing board and you have to ask for one. Also, the rooms were neat but old....seemed almost dirty but they weren't.

Room had a great view. We upgraded our room from the older histortical part of the hotel. Loved the beach in front of hotel. Pool needs to be resurfaced.

Beautiful hotel - posted on 06/26/2006

The Garden View we selected was totally obscured by a flat roof. We complained and was moved to a better room. Don't believe this would have happened if we had reserved room direct with hotel.

room was advertised as garden view, with rates for double beds or king size same price. ours was top of the veranda, and king size bed higher priced.

What an experience - posted on 05/07/2006

I have been to the islands many times, and always like to plan a stay at the Royal Hawaiian. I would suggest a room in the Tower, as you have a wonderful view, the rooms have been recently remodeled, and you have a huge lanai. It is the only hotel that has a private beach on Waikiki, and you are truly treated like Royality!

Stay here again - posted on 04/02/2006

The RH had a very high service focus, particulary the concierge services and were very responsive. The location is the best in Waikiki. Construction around (outside of) the hotel will be a congestion causing negative for the next several months

A so, so experience - posted on 03/03/2006

I booked a Garden View room, King, non-smoking. They didn't have a non-smoking room when I got there and had to pay for an upgrade to get to a non-smoking room of $*/night. The smoking room smelled like a very old bar. It was nasty. I couldn't sleep there. I wouldn?t subject a criminal or animal to that room. I've been forced to take smoking rooms before and they've never been that bad. The historic part of the hotel is somewhat run down, dark and dreary. If you stay here, pay extra to be in the tower.

Best hotel in Hawaii - posted on 02/22/2006

I have stayed at this hotel aboyt 30 times in the last 15 years and it is the ONLY hotel I will stay at in Hawaii. The staff is the crowning achievement. The aura of 'old' Hawaii permeates the air. Concierge service is incredible. Don't miss the Mai Tia Bar!!!

IN THE PINK - posted on 02/01/2006

The RH was the right way to go. I loved being on the chained in private beach; Mai Tai in hand and eating the great chicken wings while the hords of others fought for a square of sand. Everything 5star! Quiet beautiful hotel!

Great Luxury Hotel - posted on 10/22/2005

My room overlooked the Pool but any room view is beautiful. All areas of the hotel are very well maintained, pleanty of attention given to the pool area and beach. Nicest beach in Wikiki and umbrellas available at lounge chairs on tbe beach and pool areas.

There were those tiny little ants crawling around the night stand and a few on the bed, otherwise, everything was great! Thanks.

Garden Room- make sure to get a room above the 2nd floor, otherwise you could be looking at a wall or the roof. Sixth Floor was great garden view. Coffee and tea available until 8:30 A.M.but staff did not tell us. Some furnishings were in need of replacement but most important the bed was just fine. Luau on Monday, book early. Valet is very helpful for directions if needed. Shopping is right there and any number of restaurants are a few steps away. Super location!!

Unbelievable - posted on 01/04/2005

My wife and spent our honeymoon at the Royal Hawaiian. It was amazing. The staff was friendly. The rooms were large and beautiful. The beach and property were stunning. Although, I recommend reserving a beach chair the day before, as they go quickly. The location was perfect, smack in the middle of Waikiki. I would recommend this hotels to anyone. It is worth every penny.

Unforgetable - posted on 12/06/2004

My honeymoon there was truly memorible. The minute you walked in, you had a feeling of ohana. The ambience said first class. When people inquired to where we were staying and we said "Royal Hawaiian", the red carpet came out. Our stay there only made our honeymoon more special and joyous. We will be coming back again next year. Although we visited a lot of spectacular places, coming back to our room everyday was the icing on the cake. The price may seem high for some people, but can a person put a price on fantastic memories?
