Hilo Hotel Guide Cheap Hilo Hotels

Hilo, is a paradise where volcanoes, tropical flowers and sandy beaches have drawn tourists from near and far. Overlooking the Hilo Bay you might be surprised that it is one of Hawaii’s largest cities. It has a reputation for having a lot of rain but that only helps the wild flowers and lush greenery flourish. Hilo also has a lot of sunshine for you to enjoy the beaches and explore the sites.

One of the most popular attractions on the island is the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. It is here that you will find Mauna Kea, home to a few observatories and Mauna Loa, which is an active volcano. Known as the earth’s largest volcano, Mauna Loa is also an active volcano. This means you can see the lava flow right before your eyes. It is a good idea to contact the park before you come to see if there is ‘fresh’ lava for you to enjoy. Although it may not be the largest, Mauna Kea is one of the world’s highest mountains. The added benefit of visiting here is that it is a dormant volcano. Whichever peak you explore it is wise to wear good shoes and remember to drink lots of water. Located less than an hour’s drive away from Hilo, the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is definitely worth the trip.

Surrounded by a rainforest, Pana’ewa Rainforest Zoo has a great array of animals for all to enjoy. Plus, there is no admission fee, which is music to the ears of anyone traveling with a large family. The Pacific Tsunami Museum provides great insight into the powerful waves that changed the look of Hilo forever. One of the many benefits of having enough rain is the creation of stunning waterfalls and those found in Hilo are absolutely breathtaking. A few worth mentioning include Akaka Falls and Rainbow Falls. The latter is best visited earlier in the day so that you can catch a glimpse of a rainbow. Both are stunning and definitely worth bringing the camera for.

What Hawaiian vacation would be complete without lounging on its glorious beaches? Hilo has a great selection of popular swimming holes. There are also fantastic waves ideal for surfing, especially at the Honoli’i Beach Park. Snorkelers love the Richardson’s Ocean Park since the currents are slow and there are many wonderful fish that call this area home.

Hilo also knows how to party. The weeklong celebration known as the Merrie Monarch Festival is a fantastic event that draws out the crowds. Celebrating the art of hula dancing you will be able to see the pros show off their talents. Whether you arrive in time for the festival or not, Hilo is an amazing city that is sure to impress you.
