We had the most awesome time at the Gastonian. Every attention to detail is given and we truely enjoyed the Southern Hospitality! Great food!
We Were Disappointed - posted on 08/20/2005
After reading the previous reviews, we couldn't wait to get to the Inn. Unfortunately, they have started a renovation and not much consideration is being given to appearance in the meantime. Our room had paint chips on the floor. We had to call for someone to come vacuum the rug which was also stained. A dirty mop was left standing by the door to our room by workers. Overall cleanliness was a problem. The room was attractive, the bed was comfortable, food was very good. The staff was very friendly.
Can't wait to go back! - posted on 08/12/2005
This place rocks! The staff is welcoming and the hotel is a little way form the hustle of the city's main drag so it is very relaxing. It was an absolute refuge. I felt at home. Cannot wait to return! And the grits at breakfast are the best I have ever eaten. I am a native southerner so I have eaten a ton of grits.

Imagine going back in history. That's what a stay here is like --- except we had electricity and all of the comforts of home! Beautiful, beautiful gardens. Loved this place.
Well Worth It - posted on 05/26/2005
I thought this was a bit pricy at first, but soon realized how much we were going to enjoy it. The breakfast was very nice, and the cook who prepared it for us was very personable. Its a real historic inn, so there were no elevators, but it was so unique. We will stay there again and recommend it to our friends.

Everything at the Gastonian was great, however, the service was outstanding.
Perfect Stay! - posted on 02/14/2006
My wife and I were booked for 2 nights at the Gastonian. We loved it so much we cancelled our reservations in Hilton Head and extended our stay for another two nights. We can highly recommend it. It is a wonderful Inn with great food & service.
Awesome vacation - posted on 02/10/2006
We had the most wondeful vacation in Savannah. Everything at the Gastonian was first class: check-in, our room, the food, the service and the location. We can highly recommend it.

We could not have been more pleased with our stay at The Gastonian. The atmosphere was wonderful. The staff was helpful and the building itself was just an experience. Savannah's a beautiful city, and The Gastonian is a beautiful inn.
Too bad they don't believe in dusting under beds - posted on 03/22/2007
Within an hour, my allegies were awful. When we looked under the bed it was DISGUSTING. Dust had been there for MONTHS. Same in every unoccupied room I looked into. Nothing ever moved and dusted. Our blinds didn't work and one was missing. Other rooms had the same problem. Our fan and overhead were also broken. Loved the other guests, but the Gastonian is no longer Relais material (although they let you believe it is)-- new owners look like they are not doing a very good job to make the place "sing". Some careful training and oversight is deperately needed

My husband and I stayed at the Gastonian for our 16th anniversary. We were pampered with good service, great food and a very friendly staff.

The Gastonian was very quiet and romantic. I would recommend it for anyone who wants great service and privacy. The staff went above and beyond what I would expect. The food was also fantastic. This place gets two big thumbs up from me.

We stayed two nights in the Penthouse and then decided to stay another night. We had to move to the Garden Room - both rooms were beautiful and very nicely decorated. My husband enjoyed the wireless internet option. The service and the friendlyness could not have been better

My mother and I traveled from Atlanta to Savannah. The Gastonian is wonderful. The atmosphere is peaceful. The staff is wonderul and friendly. I only wish they served dinner. The breakfast was great. Our room was beautiful and very clean!
Horrible experience - posted on 08/31/2006
After 3 hours of being in the 'penthouse' suite, I checked out due to the odor of dog urine and natural gas leaking out of the two "non working" fireplaces. In addition to the smell, the views were terrible with no privacy and the stairs outside were slippery.

We really enjoyed the Gastonian from check-in to check-out. Great dinner restaurants are Elizabeth's on 37th Street and the Sapphire Grill. For lunch we liked SOHO South Cafe
Very charming hotel! - posted on 07/11/2006
The Gastonian was a lovely hotel - we would certainly stay there again. We had trouble with the not-so-state-of-the-art window ac unit, which did a poor job of cooling our room, but overall was a more than pleasant stay.
lovely b&b with stellar service/average food - posted on 07/08/2006
The Gastonian is an outstanding bed & breakfast inn located in the historic district; lovely common areas and individually decorated rooms with antiques, flat screen t.v.'s and all of the expected amenities. Not walking distance to River Street where the excitement is; close to public transportation; Hotel will summon a cab. Will stay there again! Highly recommend the Pink House Restaurant for four star dining and the horse drawn carriage rides in the historic district, too.
Breakfast in bed - posted on 07/06/2006
We overslept the second morning and even though it was noon (Breakast 'til 10am) they still made us our breakfast and brought in to our room! The location is great - everything is within walking distance without being in the middle of the very busy River Street area or City Market. Staff was very helpful - had a great time and want to come back!
Nice Stay - posted on 07/05/2006
The concierge at the Gastonian was very helpful and gracious. The entire staff was pleasant and friendly. The breakfast was outstanding and the evening dessert & coffee was very good. The only area of improvement in our room could be the bed. It was squeaky (very) and a little on the hard side, although my wife thought it was comfortable. The location wasn't as in the middle of everything as I would have hoped, but still well within walking distance. Very nice stay.
BRING YOUR OWN BREAKFAST - posted on 06/01/2006
The food was the most disappointing of all. The menu never changed except for flavor of pancakes. Eggs and pancakes are not goumet breakfast. VERY small portions, didn't even fill up the plate. Ran out of sausage/bacon. Muffins were 2" x 2" only 3 blueberries in whole muffin. Forgot any blueberries in pancakes. Desserts were dry bundt cakes, tasted like they were frozen and thawed. Left trash bag on our mantel. Forgot turndown service one night. Very nice balcony. Poor quality for high price. Area was nice. Need to get more experienced help.

There is only one word to describe our stay at the Gastonian: PERFECT!!!!
An enjoyable getaway - posted on 03/19/2006
My wife and I simply wanted to get away from life and spend some quality time together. We were thrilled with our stay at the Gastonian! Checking in was quick and easy. The inn staff seemed to know what we needed. Our room was delightful; very spacious, comfortable and historic. We especially enjoyed the afternoon tea and evening coffee and dessert. The morning breakfast offered refreshing twists on the traditional breakfast fare. The garden was beautiful and relaxing. I recommend this Inn to anyone visiting Savannah for a taste of hospitality.
