Tampa is an up and coming city pleased to offer fantastic dining options, great theme parks, cool shopping districts and an awesome nightlife. Stunning skyscrapers, large malls, the Hillsborough River snaking through the city, a beautiful waterfront and great hotels all create this wonderful city. Everywhere you go there’s something worth exploring. Choose to relax or put on your walking shoes and see for yourself why so many are flocking to this Floridian city.
There are many great districts in Tampa, but if you’re only visiting for a few days then Channelside, Ybor City and Hyde Park are the ones worth spending time at. Channelside used to be known for its abandon warehouses but today it stands as an elite shopping district perfect for finding great deals and enjoying a delicious meal. You’ll still be able to enjoy the Florida sun as you walk along the streets exploring its fantastic boutiques and shops. Old Hyde Park is a beautiful, historic area found in south Tampa. It also has great shops as well as many historic buildings. Known for its local festivals, you’ll have the perfect reason to come out and explore what it has to offer. If you’re in the mood for a good time, make your way to the Ybor District. Known as Tampa’s Little Havana, the cobblestone streets guide you to fantastic nightclubs, bars and restaurants. You’ll even find cigar shops and a coffee-roasting plant. The Ybor District is also well known for its amazing Latin festivals. For an interesting history lesson make your way to its museum. There’s a wealth of information on the cigar industry. If you’re there at the right time, you’ll be able to see a cigar roller.
A nice way to see part of the city is to stroll along Bayshore Blvd. It’s a six-mile path used by joggers and cyclists but is also used by many visitors to catch a glimpse of some of Tampa’s oldest neighborhoods. Another great way to see some of Tampa’s history is to visit the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, which was completed in 1905. Although its façade is beautiful, the details on the inside are quite stunning. The marble alter and porcelain tiles help create a wonderful sanctuary. But the stain glass windows will take your breath away. Designed in Germany, the stories told through the painted glass are remarkable.
So now you know about the great districts, the endless shopping venues, where to grab a good bite to eat and even learn a bit of Tampa’s history. But chances are if you’re interested in Tampa, you’re looking for a bit of adventure. Bush Gardens is a huge theme park and zoo combined into one. With Africa as its theme, you’ll be treated to an amazing time where fun is the primary goal. Its zoo has over 2,700 animals and is one of the country’s premier zoos. It also has a great selection of shows, restaurants and shops. But if thrills are what you’re after, make your way through the theme park and enjoy one exciting ride after another. Whether you’re swirling, twisting, dropping or soaring, you’ll love each and every one of the rides here. And when you get up close to any one of the rollercoasters, you really try to figure out how it’s possible to make the steel (or wood) bend the way it does. You’ll have lots of time to think about it when you’re doing 360s in the air. Need to cool off? Make your way to Bush Garden’s neighbor – Adventure Island. There are 30 acres of water packed with slides, pools, playgrounds and waterfalls. Dry off playing in the arcades, during a game of volleyball or by soaking up the rays. Rather try to understand the water then be soaked by it? Tampa’s 200,000 sq-ft aquarium is a must for anyone who loves water. You can explore the wetlands, learn about seahorses and stingrays, or get up close with a shark. In fact, if you’re a certified scuba diver you can even swim in the shark tank. I’m not sure why you’d want to but if that’s your thing, this is the place to be. The aquarium really is a site to see. Just make sure you give yourself enough time to explore everything it offers.
