A Wonderful Place to Stay in Miami - posted on 04/09/2007

The Winterhaven is a great hotel located right on Ocean Drive. The service was wonderful, the hotel was clean, and the location simply can not be beat. The free breakfast & beach towels & beach chairs were all fantastic and saved us a bundle of money. We will definately be back!!!

A pleasant suprise!! - posted on 03/07/2007

After reading the reviews I was a bit hesitant but WHAT A GREAT CHOICE!! This hotel is right in the middle of everything and the rooms and bathrooms are clean. The best part is the staff. They hold doors open and offer helpful suggestions for activities. I would stay there anytime! In fact thinking about going back down there again soon and I will stay there again.

Good, basic accomodations - posted on 12/18/2006

I'm not a very picky traveler, so anyone who demands perfection in every single detail of his/her stay may wish to skip this review. I stayed here for a couple of days prior to my cruise. Room was big enough with comfortable bed and air conditioning. I wasn't given an ocean view room, but I had a halfway decent view of the city. Hair dryer included in bathroom (but no bathtub, just a shower :( ) Housekeeping staff did a great job. Hotel is just across the street from the beach. Good for travelers who don't need all the fancy "bells and whistles" of a luxury hotel.

Ocean on one side, party on the other! Yeah, there was construction going on but we made it work, esp w/ discount. The continental breakfast was fabulous and well worth the "$5 daily amenity fee." There's a waffle maker and pre-made batter, cereal, bagels, etc; The happy hour is great. Overall hotel was great, bathrooms are modern and the bed and pillows very comfortable. If you're in your 20s or early 30s, this is the place for you.

A Nice Hotel - posted on 09/20/2006

I enjoyed my stay at the Winterhaven Hotel. It has a great location right on Ocean Drive and is close to every thing I wanted to do in South Beach. The hotel is old and under renovation but it was quiet, clean and comfortable, especially for the price. I found the staff to be friendly and always greeting me when I passed. And the cleaning staff was good. Cable tv, good air conditioning and there's that beautiful view of the moon over the ocean, when you walk out of the hotel in the evening. I would definitely stay there again.

disappointed - posted on 08/29/2006

Have stayed at hotel several times in past and always enjoyed my stay. This time, however, I found the "lobby staff" somewhat unfriendly with a "could care less attitude" relative to "serving" hotel guests. Was never like this in the past. Staff was always extremely friendly, courteous, and willing to be of service to hotel guests. However, rooms are very clean and housekeeping does a great job.

The hotel was very old compared to some of the nicer ones located on Ocean Drive. But for the price the rooms were clean. However, the walls are very thin. We were located on the outside of 14th street and could hear all the people passing by especially at 4am in the morning. The continental breakfast ended promply at 10am and there wasn't much to choose from. For the price this is a good location just steps from the beach.

Exactly what I was looking for - posted on 07/28/2006

This hotel was exactly what I was looking for: a clean and affordable place in South Beach to spend a long weekend. The service was great and the amenities were nice, but most importantly, it is on Ocean Drive.

Acceptable for the location & price - posted on 07/07/2006

The location is great for going to the beach & clubs. However, the breakfast is poorly laid out&ends PROMPTLY@10AM, 1 ice machine in lobby, thin walls & extra $5/day/room charge for breakfast, happy hour (4 drinks/room), use of beach towels&chairs the hotel is fairly good. There are restaurants within walking distance but they're mediocre.

Winterhaven getaway - posted on 06/28/2006

This was a nice, clean hotel. The staff was very good (especially the bartender!). The hotel is within walking distance to great shopping and dining. The beach is directly across the street. The only thing I would fix are the "thin" walls. Noisy neighbors made it hard to sleep.

Consider Other Options - posted on 06/19/2006

Warning, a "superior room" is always a "city view" room with a view of a brick wall. If no upgrades are available, you're stuck. The rooms are clean but small. The hotel location was great but there are homeless people in the ocean park across the street and it is noisy outside at night. The front desk staff was great, except the arrogant bald guy with glasses who works afternoons. The free breakfast every morning and free happy hour every evening was nice. When taking everything into consideration, we?ll review the many other options before staying here again.

Gone down hill - posted on 06/03/2006

I stayed at the Winterhaven a couple of years ago and was thrilled with the location as well as the hotel itself. During my recent stay in May, I was disappointed. The location is still great, it's a great deal and the staff is friendly and helpful. That said, the facilities and amenities have gone down hill. The roof top sun deck is dirty, peeling and neglected; the breakfast is terrible (no water, terrible coffee, no napkins, gas station bagels, below average red apples, NO service assistance) and the linens are shabby.

This is a party hotel! If you have kids and you are looking to stay in Miami, this is not your hotel. It's a great place for singles, couples and others who want to enjoy the south beach party...

Great locaiton and amenities! - posted on 05/25/2006

The location of the hotel is superb. It's on the northern end of Ocean Dr. which is more tranquil than all the hotel/ restaurants on lower Ocean Dr. The hotel is under construction on the outside but it wasnt an inconvenience. The breakfast and 4 free cocktails per room every night were well worth the $5/day fee. It also includes towels and great beach chairs than you can carry like bakpacks to the beach which is just across the street. It's not a fancy hotel but it's great for the price and I would definately go back.

This hotel has a great location on ocean drive close to lincoln street. The staff was wonderful! You even get a complimentary cocktail hour and a continental breakfast. The room was imaculate compared to other south beach hotels. I would recomend staying at this hotel.

Stay Here! - posted on 02/20/2006

Wow. The Winterhaven was the best place to stay. It takes you 30 seconds to walk across the street to the beach and you are in walking distance to EVERYTHING! The staff is very friendly. My boyfriend and I are a young couple and we didn't want to go to an area that was too loud. We wanted a romantic, relaxing, and quiet place for a week.We enjoyed the location the best. This hotel had everything but a refridgerator. Two words: News Cafe! You go to Miami Beach for the atmosphere and this hotel (location, room, cost), will not let you down. Have a great trip!

Great Place - posted on 02/19/2006

Very good place to stay. Room, hallway, and lobby were clean. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Quiet location(as South Beach goes) Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was clean and modern. a/c worked fine and didn't hear my neighbors. Decore is in good shape. Lobby is very nice and a good place to meet friends. I' ve only stayed in South Beach one other time and this is by far the better hotel. The beach is across the street and there are lounge chairs for rent at that location. I would definitely go back and would recommend this hotel to friends.

Location is great, bed not so much - posted on 12/15/2005

The location is great, a short walk from a ton of restaurants/bars, service was very accomodating and efficient, the bed was a rock, very uncomfortable for me and my girlfriend. Overall though a good place to stay.

Cheap and excellent location - posted on 11/01/2005

Correct size of room. Furniture very basic, not as nice as at the picture shown at the homepage. TV did not work. Small bed for two (1,6m). Good breakfast. clean rooms, excellent location and very kind persons at the reception. This hotel is ok for a short and cheap stay at Miami Beach.

Comfortable - posted on 10/05/2005

The 2 things that first strike you when you open the door is that this room is so small it's laughable. The second thing is that this room is "frosty" which in South Beach Miami, is a good thing. I'm not a guy who needs a lot of pampering, so this room was fine for me. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was clean and big enough to accomodate a large man of my stature. I will definately stay there again.

Great Place To Stay - posted on 08/29/2005

Just got back from the Winterhaven in South Beach. Service was excellent. Room was very small, but for the price, it was fine. It really was just a place to stay while you were out. 1-minute walk to the beach too. Got stuck with Hurricane Katrina and they had a party that night in the lounge with great specials.

Wonderful hotel. - posted on 08/18/2005

I loved this hotel. We stayed at a two-bedroom (twin beds) and it was clean, and well taken-care of. The staff was very nice and helpful. However, I soon realized why people were complaining about the lack of room-darkening shades. If you're visiting South Beach and staying out late, you need shades to sleep the whole morning off. Also, the continental breakfast was hardly a meal.

Pleasantly Surprised. - posted on 08/07/2005

The Winterhaven has a great location to the beach and everyhting else there's to do in South Beach. The rooms were clean but small, but who comes to South Beach to lay in the room!! The breakfast was acceptable and had a nice outside sitting area. The bartender at the martini bar was great. She gave me a lot of great suggestions on where to go!!!! I was by myself and met a lot of great people during my stay. I will definitely stay here again!! Don't let the low price scare you!!!

Great Place - posted on 07/08/2005

Excellant hotel and location for a reasonable rate on South Beach. Staff was friendly and beach was great. Quiet for South Beach but close to the action. Water at the beach was clear and calm .Sand was white. Some women wore a thong, but I saw only one topfree female sunbather. Room was simple but with up to date plumbing. however a heavier drape is needed on the window to keep the morning sun out. Excellant value

GOOD WEEKEND - posted on 06/14/2005

This hotel has the most friendly staff. The front desk clerks were always helpful and smiling. The only complaint I have is the airconditioner in the room was not cold enough and the hallways and elevator was hot as hell.
