Thin Walls! - posted on 10/26/2004
Positives-nice courtyard, a block off of Duval, price is right. Negatives-no assigned parking (had to park 2 blocks away), walls are very thin-we could easily hear outside traffic and the noise from rooms next door. We were awoken more than once. All I was looking for was a nice place to sleep, as I didn't plan on spending much time in my room-the fact that the room is very small did not bother me. But, we did not get one sound nights sleep while we were there. Perhaps the suites are a different story, but I won't stay there again.

While I understand that rooms must be made to suit the handicapped, I would've liked to be informed in advance that I'd be required to shampoo my hair and hold the shower head simultaneously. The floors look like 100 people walked on it with wet, muddy feet and I woke in the morning with bug bites on my body - wonder where they came from??? And there is no pool - just a big bathtub. I can only assume that any positive reviews were written while still intoxicated from the very nearby Duval Street - the only positive thing about this place.

Lovely location and charming courtyard. Close to Duvall Street. Nice breakfast area by the pool. Bed was comfortable and shower was great.
small rooms, thin walls - posted on 02/01/2006
You could hear the people on both sides of your room get up, walk across the floor(every step) and hear them using the bathroom. VERY THIN WALLS, also very small rooms, good location and very nice folks running the place, but over priced.
Will Always stay here! - posted on 10/02/2004
My husband and I have been going to Key West for over 10 years, we found the Merlin about 5 years ago and will never change. The privacy is fabulous, and each room has its own unique feature. I would suggest not staying in the small rooms on the street, but all the others are great.
