About the Duval House

Duval House is a 30 room vintage bed-and-breakfast inn in the center of the action on Key West’s famous Duval Street. The property is actually a unique collection of seven two-story houses and tiny cottages built in 1888 and renovated in the 1980s. If you want to watch the action on Duval Street and don’t mind a little noise from the party crowds, choose a room in one of the two houses facing Duval Street. Sit on your balcony and watch the show. If privacy and tropical serenity is more your style, opt for a room in one of the houses or tiny cottages clustered around the pool in the interior tropical garden. Once settled into Duval House, hop on the Conch Train for a quick Key West orientation tour. A Key West sunset at Mallory Square is another must-do local tradition and it’s only a short walk from Duval House to Mallory Square. Mix and mingle with Key West locals and other visitors, along with an assortment of street entertainers and craft vendors, and bid goodbye to the day.

Does HotelsByCity recommend this hotel?

If you are looking for a luxury hotel, Duval House is probably not the best choice. If you want authentic Key West ambiance and an antidote to the real world, it's a great choice. Guests cite the tropical and laid back atmosphere, general comfort and cleanliness and friendly staff as reasons to return to Duval House year after year. Read our customer reviews?

Duval House Accommodations

There are a wide variety of room sizes and types at Duval House. Small rooms (tiny and cozy) and standard rooms (average hotel room size) with queen beds that open directly into the garden. Deluxe rooms with king-sized beds and sitting areas also overlook the tropical garden. And, there are a couple of suites with and without a kitchen. Don’t look for generic big city hotel ambiance. Like Key West itself, think fun and funky, eclectic and eccentric. Furnishings are island style, a quaint combination of white wicker, bamboo and rattan. (Note: Duval House is an adult setting. Children under age 16 are discouraged.)

Amenities offered

Start each day at Duval House with an expanded continental breakfast of pastries, fruit, yogurt and cereals accompanied by coffee, tea, juice and Champagne mimosas. After a day or night on the town, the large jungle-like garden is the perfect place to relax and revive. Chat with new friends in the gazebo or around umbrella tables tucked into tropical foliage, Spanish lime trees and a massive 100 year old Banyan tree. Go for a swim or nap in the double hammock. There is no on-site restaurant or bar, but it’s just a short stroll to dozens of Key West’s best eateries and hot nightspots. The innkeeper or knowledgeable desk staff will guide you to area attractions and make reservations for dining, sailing or deep-sea fishing trips.

Directions (view map)

Directions from Miami: From the Florida Turnpike, take U.S. Highway 1 through the Keys. Be prepared for a long, but scenic drive. It’s 131 miles along a two-lane highway. Traffic, especially on weekends, is heavy. Allow two-three hours for the drive. Once in Key West, Highway 1 becomes North Roosevelt Blvd and then Truman Avenue. Turn right on Duval Street. Watch out for Key West wild chickens crossing the roads.

Directions from the Key West Airport: Heading away from the airport exit on Faraldo Circle, turn right on S. Roosevelt Blvd. After it becomes Bertha Street, turn left on Atlantic Blvd. until it becomes Reynolds St. Turn left on South St and then right on Duval St. It’s a small island. If you get lost, ask anyone for directions.
