This bustling metropolis is located along the scenic St. Johns River. Interestingly enough, this beautiful river flows south to north and feeds the amazing scenery found throughout the city. Explore Jacksonville as you follow its riverbanks, on foot or by water taxi, that lead you to great dining establishments, wonderful scenery and world-renowned museums. Stroll along the pathways or visit the Friendship Fountain, which is quite stunning at night. There are many beautiful parks here as well. And if youre in the mood for some surf and sand, Jacksonville is a short drive away from the famous Jacksonville Beach. Pack your walking shoes and flip flops and get ready to experience Jacksonville.
One of its more popular areas is the fantastic Jacksonville Landing. Located on the north bank of the St. Johns River, this riverfront complex is filled with great dining options, unique stores and often has live entertainment. Next door youll find Times-Union Center, the place to be for Broadway shows, concerts and the Jacksonville Symphony. Cross over to the south side of the river and youll be at the Riverwalk, a wonderful city park that has a great boardwalk located along the river. Here youll also find the MOSH, the Museum of Science and History. Enjoy learning about space at its planetarium, the St. Johns river system or explore its many exhibits, including an amazing one on Dinosaurs. Another great museum in Jacksonville is the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens. Beautifully located along the St. Johns River, this fine art museum has 12 fantastic galleries that showcases art dating back from 2,000 BC up until today. Its stunning English gardens surround the building allowing you to enjoy the works of art both inside and outdoors.
Experience what this part of the world would have looked like long ago when you arrive at the Big Talbot Island. Only a short Ferry ride away, this majestic place is ideal for hiking, bird watching and fishing. Close by is Little Talbot Island where youll enjoy five miles of beautiful sandy beaches and marshes, also ideal for fishing. And for those that really love to fish, the Jacksonville Beach Fishing Pier makes it easy. The pier is over 1000 feet long and you can rent your fishing gear if you dont have any along (must be quite awkward to pack a fishing pole and tackle box). And the best part is you dont need a license to fish here. But perhaps you enjoy all creatures, big and small, wet or dry. The Jacksonville Zoological Gardens Zoo and Aquarium has the second largest animal collection in all of America. Enjoy its amazing exhibits like the Australian Adventure, the Plains of East Africa or the Wild Florida exhibits.
Perhaps animals just arent your thing. Jacksonville has got a great way for you to enjoy its beautiful scenery. Home to the nations second largest golf resort, the popular Sawgrass Marriott, Jacksonville is well known as being a golfers heaven on earth. There are dozens of golf courses throughout the entire area so youll have plenty of chances to practice your swing. You never know Jacksonville just might be the place for you to stop slicing your ball.
Not too interested in golfing, animals, river walks or museums? How about enjoying some of the most beautiful sand North America has to offer? Take the short drive to Jacksonville Beach and youll come across 20 miles of beautiful white sand. You could spend the entire day here. Try out surfing, go for a bike ride, soak up the rays or get refueled at one of the many delicious restaurants located here. Not enough activity for you? Then make your way to Jacksonville Beachs Adventure Landing Amusement Park. Go from dry to wet to dry all at the same place. Go down the crazy slides, make your way through Shipwreck Island or experience a tube ride like youve never seen before. Dry off at the go-karts, batting cages or in the arcade, which has over 100 games. You could even try your luck at the laser tag area. This fun zone is a great way to cool off from the Florida sun.
So there you have it. Whether its surfing or fishing, zoos or museums, water parks or waterways, Jacksonville is a great place to enjoy the Florida weather and the beautiful Florida scenery.
