Fort Lauderdale is a beach lovers dream come true. There are gorgeous white sandy beaches, warm Atlantic waters and beautiful scenery. The weather is lovely and it lives up to its name as the Venice of America because of the rivers, walkways and canals that wind throughout.
One of the main streets in Fort Lauderdale is actually a flowing river. Hop on a waterbus and stop off wherever you’d like to explore. There are great areas along the way, perfect for dining, shopping or dancing the night away. One of the best areas is Las Olas Boulevard, which is Fort Lauderdale's upscale shopping and dining district. There are sidewalk cafes, a jazz club and great places to find the perfect outfit for a great meal, all to be found at Los Olas Boulevard.
Las Olas Riverfront is Fort Lauderdale’s downtown district. You’ll find lots of entertainment, shops and stores. There’s also the charming Riverwalk. Here you’ll see the city’s art, science, and cultural district. The Performing Arts Center and the Museum of Discover and Science can be found here. And for those who love the performing arts, you’ll want to catch a show at the Broward Center. This stunning building hosts a wide variety of performances such as ballet, opera, symphony concerts and theater productions. It’s also a stop for many Broadway shows and concerts.
Fort Lauderdale has a wealth of shopping venues to be explored. Most of these are coupled with fantastic restaurants and places to enjoy a show, concert or movie. For a bit of a different flavor, head over to Dania Beach's Antique Row. You’ll find a huge selection of stores that offer treasures from the past. For those who love a great deal, make your way to Pompano Beach where there’s a huge Flea Market. It’s the state’s largest indoor/outdoor market and is home to over 650 vendors. But if you just want to shop and have countless options at your fingertips, make your way to Florida’s largest retail center, Sawgrass Mills. This complex is so huge, its even got its own street signs to guide you while you’re inside. And although its going to take you time and energy to make it to all the stores, there are over 300, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy a bite to eat or catch a show. Talk about your all-in-one shopping experience.
What about all that beautiful nature? Fort Lauderdale has a great selection of outdoor activities for you to enjoy that Florida heat. Make your way to Everglades Holiday Park and have the time of your life on an airboat as it glides over the river and takes you on an exciting journey. Prefer the ocean? No worries. There are glass bottom boat tours that can take you out on the Atlantic and show you the amazing life that lives in the sea.
