Great historic Florida Getaway - posted on 04/29/2007
This hotel was great. The rooms were old, but clean. Who wants to stay in the room anyway with so much to do in the Clearwater area? We were treated like royalty and the hotel has significant historical value. The hotel provided a shuttle to their private beach. We ate breakfast outside every morning at the hotel restaurant with a beautiful view of the pool and palm trees. We will stay again!
A great Surprise in this Hotel - posted on 04/24/2007
This hotel is awesome. Lanscape is wonderful. Staff was amazing. The restaurant was high class. Pool service was perfect. Pools and private beach was fantastic. Cabana Grill had reasonably priced food, bathhouses and pool. Rooms had high ceilings and tall windows. Huge Victorian porches all over the hotel. Spa was classy and indoor pool was elegant. Very relaxing...and we had kids with us! Will go back.
Older is NOT better - posted on 04/19/2007
There was no place in the bathroom to put toiletries except the floor! There was a decrepid looking tub and sink; green corrosion around all of the bathroom fixtures. The tiles in the bathroom floor were cracked, the tub was stained. There was a large spiderweb hanging from one of the corners over the door. All the beds were clean and comfortable. The toilet ran continuously. The shower was a constant hot/cold battle as any time a toilet flushed in the hotel the cold water would disappear and I would get scolded. The breakfast buffet offered nothing exceptional and the food was cold.
Awesome hotel - posted on 04/19/2007
The hotel is 110 years old and part of it is being rennovated, but it is still worth a visit! The first thing I thought of when I walked in was the movie, "The Shining." It is supposed to be haunted and was super fun to be in. On top of this, the staff was very friendly and there was always someone around if you needed anything!
Classicly Beautiful Bargain - posted on 04/14/2007
When I saw this hotel priced among boring hotels like Hampton Inne and Days Inn, I couldn't believe it! Yes, the hotel needs some TLC, but what a beautiful bargain! I'd stay again in a heartbeat!
Relaxing Charm - posted on 04/09/2007
The staff is gracious, the food was just great. The hotel has a great Sunday brunch buffet. The ghost tour was interesting but way over done. We stayed in a single room and then upgraded to a double with a balcony. Both were very clean but we will take the double from the start next time. I loved the polished wood plank floors in the sitting room and the balcony had lots of space. The roof needed repair from last year's hurricanes and it is a massive roof.
old charm but no service - posted on 04/01/2007
this was once a great hotel andihop it will be again soon but the rooms are old and dusty and everything feeld neglected and unloved the roof is coming off in strips and the electrics are hanging off the walls dont pay any more than $100 a night it aint worth any more
Beautiful hotel in need of amenities - posted on 03/31/2007
This hotel could be a 4 or 5 star establishment, but little attention to detail, lackluster customer service, and poor housekeeping detract from overall satisfaction
I would go back because... - posted on 03/16/2007
Really I loved what this hotel once was. Its hugh, old and was once elegant. Currently inside things are being upgraded, service was good and attentive. I was given a small room, which the staff was quick to tell me was the smallest available. However, I found it quite comfortable. The upgrade would have been an additional $40. per day. My sincere hope is that they can continue to upgrade the maintance on this dear old hotel. I loved what it once was and was and what it could be again, Food and service very good, on the bike trail if that has appeal.

We were there for a wedding at the hotel. Everything was nice. We stayed in an end room which I believe was a suite. The wedding went off with out a problem that I knew of and the wedding hall was very nice.

If you're looking for a Hilton, dont stay here. If you like something out of the ordianry this is it! 110 yr old hotel for the rich of long ago, deep history, very beautiful structure. Great pools and jacuzzis. Friendly staff. Rooms have a very "aged" llok to them. Large closet space! Ask for 1st flr king room
Traditional and classic - posted on 11/24/2006
There's something about an old victorian style hotel that has so much charm and charisma. The old fashioned mixed with the southern hospitality of Florida's charm will demand you to go back for more. One will not only fall in love with the hotel but with it's food. It was very relaxing stay and would definately go back.
an experience - posted on 09/02/2006
hotel does have a musty smell.more lighting needed in parking area..friendly...greeted each day with smiles..last day of stay room was not properly cleaned..little inconvenient for traveling into Tampa each day
not the best...probably the worst - posted on 08/05/2006
this hotel was terrible from the beginning our toilet was always running so we got little sleep, the housekeeping came to our room at 3:00 in the afternoon sometimes later where as other rooms were clean by 8:00 in the morning the pool was nice but that was the only thing
OLD LUXURY - posted on 07/06/2006
Due to its age, I didn't expect this hotel to be like the "chain" places, & expected small rooms, antiquated baths, etc. However, baths were redone very nicely, closets were huge, and the relaxation factor was out of this world. I'd chose this hotel over a new one any day.
100+ years old and looks it - posted on 06/14/2006
The lobby is nice, but it goes downhill from there. The upper floors are much hotter than the lower. Rooms all have exposed piping and are musty. Rooms are small, closet too big. Bathtub faucet produced rustwater at first each time. Fixtures at least 40+ years old. They need to gut the rooms and competely re-do them. Basic cable with no On-Demand. Window-type airconditioners.
Good Experience - posted on 06/10/2006
Historic place and a worthwhile experience to see how hotels were 100 years ago. I would recommend first floor rooms and stay away from the floors above the 2nd. The pool is great and don't believe all the ghost stories you hear.
If you want punishment, stay here! - posted on 06/03/2006
This is the worst hotel ever! I don't think it can even be called a hotel. It's a dump! Over priced, dirty, smelly, bad service. Do not stay here if you are looking forward to a relaxing vacation.
Time to go - posted on 03/15/2006
This was "some place" 100 years ago. But it needs to be put out of its misery! Everything is falling apart and the bathrooms were filthy.
Dirty - posted on 02/26/2006
The hotel was dirty. Just because its old its dirty. You drive in and see the green tarp on the roof. Cant afford a new roof than close the hotel! Everything was dirty the restrooms, the spa, old sheets and towels.
We left in the middle of the night - posted on 01/18/2006
Rooms were run down and filthy, 1st room had used cutlery and food, 2nd - no interior safety locks, 3rd - water stained carpet & peeling paint. Mold and mildew triggered my husbands asthma.A heavy potpourri scent noticed at the front desk.....it is to mask mildew. We left the hotel at 2:30am. HORRIBLE!!!! Do not book here!!!!!!!
Great Business Hotel - posted on 12/01/2005
Stayed here for 9 days on business trip. Just great experience. Even my clients came to hotel rather than their office for meetings. Large rooms, free WiFi and first business trip I wasn't depressed by the hotel room and restaurnat. Bright, felt like a giant home, huge verandas, 14ft ceilings in rooms, real nice Spa open late, with very large spa pool and they do have a real beah club without all thepublic problems.

Relax in historical splendor - posted on 09/13/2005
I can't say enough about how much my husband and I enjoyed our stay. It was utterly relaxing and peaceful. The rooms were very spacious and clean. The staff especially the P.M. security guard was helpful and friendly about the area and the hotel. Great location-didn't take long to get anywhere. We went to another hotel closeby which had a better user review and wished that we had gone back to the Biltmore. The spa experience was phenomenal and the ice cream parlor is a great touch to the property. Feel free to contact me for more details.
Great Weekend! - posted on 09/08/2005
We stayed at the hotel over the Labor Day weekend-can't believe this hotel is tucked away in Clearwater! Be sure to spend some time at the Spa-it's a good idea to book ahead, or get on the cancellation list. We went to the mystery dinner theatre Saturday night and had a wonderful time. Sunday brunch was great, and the 90 minute Hotel tour is a definite MUST! My boyfriend and I are already talking about a return visit!

This was the most beautiful hotel i've seen. The history behind it is amazing. I had a wonderful time.
Very Interesting - posted on 07/29/2005
I love to visit old hotels with character and this is one. The hotel staff was wonderful and the hotel itself has so much character. It feels like you stepped into another time. If you are looking for pure luxury I would not recommend, but if you want a nice interesting place to stay I would definitely recommend the hotel. The hotel is repairing the roof, which takes away from the beauty of the hotel, but other than that we had a wonderful stay.
Surprised - posted on 07/20/2005
Situation with roof damages was disappointing as was size of queen room and sheets, king size and type of sheets was excellent. So much history - take the tour! Make reservations for saturday dinner theater - it sells out
Beautiful View - posted on 07/05/2005
The Biltmore had a lot to offer and I enjoyed my stay thoroughly. The only complaint I had was the type of sheets that they covered the king size bed with, they were too small and kept coming off the sides. Everything else was perfect!
The Grand Old Lady - posted on 07/04/2005
I feel sorry for those who commented that this hotel was not what they expected - it was built in 1897!! The room we had was excellent! Free coffee every morning at Maisies& $2 ice cream. Free Internet access. Service thruout our stay excellent. The Peppermill Restaurant on S.Fort Harrison - excellent for dinner; the Wildflower on same street great find for breakfast. E & E Stakeout Grill delicious - on Indian Rocks Rd. All-in-all it was a great weekend & we'd hate to see this Grand Old Lady demolished for yet MORE unnecessary condos. You can't build history!
Don't be deceived - posted on 04/26/2005
Hotel looks like a castle and private drive off main street plus security booth makes you feel famous, but outcome is much different.Old wooden uneven floors, and high ceilings feels spooky.Taking a shower or bath at night is a good idea, because of the low water pressure from the old water pipes.Ice cream shop is a plus, and bakery window is a great thing to view when they're working.
