Delaware’s state capital is one of the oldest capitals in the US and the role it played in the American Revolution is one of its major drawing cards. To think of it only in those terms though means you’re missing out on everything it has to offer. Delaware plays host to a few fantastic festivals, including the Riverfront Ramble. Made up of six towns, this festival takes place at the end of the summer and showcases amazing food and free concerts. Delaware has great music festivals including the Delaware Music Festival, which is one of the best in the nation, and the Delaware Sängerbund. One of the more unusual festivals involves launches pumpkins in the air... that’s right, they’re in the air. All joking aside the Punkin Chunkin festival is a unique competitors sport where fun is the name of the game. Last but certainly not the least is the Big August Quarterly. Two guesses if you know when it takes place. This great festival is absolutely wonderful and is one of the oldest of its kind in the country.
The Dover International Speedway, also known as the Monster Mile, hosts a couple of NASCAR races each year and the Dover Downs Track provides you with harness horse racing. For the more sophisticated crew make your way to Brandywine Valley. The legendary Valley Wine Trail is made up of seven wineries ensuring that you’ll be able to enjoy a fabulous glass of wine. If you enjoy the outdoors make your way to Rehoboth Beach. It is a great summer getaway where you’ll be able to eat delicious food, play on the beach and explore the stores.
Keep an eye out for the many art galleries that have set up shop in this state and perhaps you’ll be able to take home a piece to remember Delaware by.
