The 50s funky Rabbit Ears Motel in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, is a modern update on a mid-century two-floor motel with its brash neon sign, family ownership, comfortable rooms and efficient service. Located three miles from the ski resort and walking distance to most shops and restaurants in town, Rabbit Ears has become a classic stop for lovers of Route 66-era visuals and sensibilities, frequently hosting two or three generations of visitors from the same families. The newest generations can enjoy the kitsch while still staying connected with the in-room voice mail and wireless internet access. The motel’s 65 guest rooms come in either the “luxury” or “economy” versions, with the higher end boasting private balconies over the Yampa River and adjacent park.
Does HotelsByCity recommend this hotel?
For what it is -- an inexpensive, small, few-frills motel -- the Rabbit Ears is a fine place to use as a base to explore Steamboat and northwestern Colorado. Be sure to have your photo taken by the sign. Ask the staff for details about the motel’s history and its name -- taken from the nearby mountain pass where a large rock formation looks pretty much like Bugs Bunny’s ears. Past guests praise the motel’s pricing and convenience, although it offers no shuttle to the ski resort other than the public bus. Other guests have complained that the housekeeping staff is often knocking on doors by or before 8am, so be sure to hang the “Privacy Please” sign outside. Read our customer reviews?
