Steamboat Springs is an amazing ski resort, fishing hot spot and biker’s paradise all rolled into one fantastic city. This charming place welcomes guests to enjoy everything it offers, ranging from fine dining, quaint boutiques and relaxing hot springs. Its mountain is the ideal place to go for a great bike ride, hike the trails or ski its slopes. Not too interested in working your way up and/or down it? Take a great gondola ride and see it without all the sweat. Steamboat Springs is a great place to explore, whether you’re back packing, on your honeymoon or traveling with the family.
The Steamboat Ski Resort is located in the Routt National Forest on Mount Werner and is one of the biggest ski mountains in North America. Its amazing 3,660ft vertical and close to 3,000 acres of terrain make it the place to ski in Colorado. There are 22 lifts to take you to the perfect run with chalets offering hot chocolate and a quick bite to eat to get you refueled before you continue on your way. This resort is perfect for the intermediate skier. Although there enough black runs to keep the pros happy, almost two-thirds of the mountain is lined with greens and blues. Just a thought here - ever wonder why ski run classifications are the color of bruises? If you’re not into crowds, the Howelsen ski area is the perfect place for you. It has one chair life and one rope tow lift to take you to the top. It is the oldest continuously operating ski area in Colorado and is the practice area for the local youth ski team, Steamboat Winter Sports Club and the U.S. Ski Team Jumpers. I guess no matter where you go in Colorado Springs during the winter you’ll be seeing a lot of skiers.
Not into skiing (downhill or cross country), hiking, horseback riding, snowmobiling or tubing? The Yampa Valley has the added benefit of housing natural hot springs, which are quite necessary after you work out your muscles on the mountain peaks. There are two springs open to the public. The first is the Steamboat Health and Rec center. It first opened in 1935 and has three outdoor hot spring mineral pools that are open year round, a 350-foot waterslide, sauna and showers and even a masseuse, which you’d need to book in advance. The second is the Strawberry Park Hot Springs, just seven miles from downtown Steamboat Springs. The creek is a perfect temperature and is divided into little sections by beautiful masonry architecture, complete with waterfalls. But if the hot springs are just that, hot, there’s also a cool pool for you to dip into. And if you’re not too sore from the hiking or skiing that you’ve done all day, the grounds that surround Strawberry Park Hot Springs are great for hiking and biking and enjoying a delicious picnic.
When you’ve finished finding muscles you never thought you had and have soaked long enough to make a sponge jealous, the small town of Steamboat Springs is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a nice dinner or get together with friends and party the night away. There are cute boutiques, over 70 bars and restaurants and quaint hotels and lodges lined with bikes or skis. The friendly people, western feel and lively atmosphere are the perfect backdrop to enjoy a lovely evening in Colorado.

Just outside of Steamboat Springs lies the Yampa River Botanic Park. Stretching across six acres, this botanical garden is filled with a huge variety of gardens. Some of which include the Hidden Garden, the Rainbow Garden, the Summer Sunshine Garden and the Water wise Garden. In fact, there are over thirty that showcase a variety of plants and flowers, all designed and landscaped differently. You can experience this beautiful place from spring until the snow comes down.
Whether you visit during fall, winter, spring or summer, the scenery will take your break away. Whether you enjoy skiing, hiking or horseback riding, you’ll be able to enjoy Colorado’s amazing activities. Whether you love eating out, getting a massage or soaking in a hot spring, Colorado Springs has something everyone can enjoy.
