Extremely helpful staff. Great location a block and a half from Powell Street cable car, two blocks from Chinatown, walking distance to North Beach and Union Square and Market Street and lots of marvelous restaurants. Rooms are clean and well-appointed (though small) and full of light. Free wine tasting in evenings. As a small historic European-style hotel, it doesn't have things like fitness centers or hair salons, but comfortable beds and rooms, plus a staff that - if you need extra pillows will, bring them to your room in a minute and a half - mean that we'd definitely stay here again.

This was a really nice, friendly boutique hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful and the room was clean. The TV was outstanding. The one complaint was the noise in the middle of the night, of waste removal in the alley outside our window. Perhaps ear plugs should be offered to all guests.
This was a really attractive hotel in an excellent location - amazing TV screen.
Very noisy with waste removal outside at 4AM. Stayed in other hotels downtown SF which are as bad, and others that have no noise (Kempton-Prescott).

We felt that this hotel was a good value for the area - especially compared to other hotels in San Fran. It is an older hotel, which is most evident in the bathrooms, which really have not been updated with older tile and tub. Other than that, the room itself was pretty nice. We would have preferred internet access in the room. Our second night we stayed in the Suite, which was fabulous. Large living room with leather couches, bedroom with down comforter and great city view, with big marble bathroom. This was a great value for such a nice room.
We stayed in the Suite our second night, which was fantastic - spacious and beautiful.
No internet access in the rooms - only for pay wireless in the lobby.

This luxurious hotel offers more than the basics for a memorable stay. Several guests raved about well-appointed accommodations, beautiful lobby, onsite restaurant, complimentary wines and internet, efficient staff and location. However, some visitors were disappointed with dirty bathrooms, worn-out smelly small rooms, shabby in-room amenities, broken ice machine, poor internet access, noise and spotty service.
