About the Cartwright Hotel On Union Square

The Cartwright's best feature is its location. It is literally a block from Union Square, right in the middle of 3 bus lines that take you to the Wharf and the Mission. Even Chinatown is walkable. The hotel has a very classy, charming feel.

I would recommend this hotel to couples and/or single travelers...it's not the best place for families since the rooms are rather small, due to its superb location in the middle of San Francisco. We parked our car and didn't touch it all weekend. The staff is very accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable about the city. The hotel is cute, cozy and great to stay at for the weekend. Cartwright Hotel On Union Square Accommodations

There are 114 rooms, some larger than others. The free wireless Internet is VERY useful. There is no fitness room, but they do have a good arrangement with a gym down the street. A wall-mounted television, remote-controlled ceiling fan and well-stocked bathrooms make for a cozy stay.

Amenities offered

Guests can bump elbows and exchange tourist advice during the Cartwright's daily complimentary wine and cookies social hour, which begins at 6 p.m. In the morning, a free continental breakfast and available newspapers help start your day. Or, you could check out the hotel library.

Directions from the South: (From Silicon Valley, the Peninsula, and San Francisco International Airport)
Take Highway 101 North to San Francisco.
Take 280 towards downtown San Francisco.
Take the 3rd Street Downtown exit (280 ends).
Turn left at 3rd Street.
Go approximately 8 blocks and cross Market Street; stay in left lane.
3rd Street turns into Kearny Street.
Go about 3 blocks to Sutter Street; turn left.
The Cartwright Hotel on Union Square is located just past Powell Street on the right side at 524 Sutter Street.

Directions from the East: (From Berkeley, Oakland Airport, Interstate 80, and the Bay Bridge)
Take Highway 80 West to the Bay Bridge/San Francisco Cross Bay Bridge.
Take the Fremont Street exit (first exit on the right side after crossing the Bay Bridge).
Go 2 blocks and cross Market Street.
Fremont Street becomes Front Street.
Go a half block and turn left onto Pine Street.
Go approximately 7 blocks on Pine Street.
Turn left onto Powell Street.
Go 2 blocks; turn right on Sutter Street.
The Cartwright Hotel on Union Square is located on the right side of the street at 524 Sutter Street.

Directions from the North: (From Marin, Wine Country, and the Golden Gate Bridge)
Take Highway 101 South.
Cross the Golden Gate Bridge.
Take the Lombard Street exit.
Follow Lombard approximately 1 mile.
Turn right onto Van Ness Avenue.
Go approximately 15 blocks on Van Ness (which is still Highway 101).
Turn left on Bush Street.
Go approximately 8 blocks on Bush Street.
Turn right on Powell Street.
Go 1 block; turn right on Sutter Street.
