Well run, friendly, accommodating. The room was sizable, had lots of amenities e.g. lighted make-up mirror, shoe-shining machine, bathrobes. I would stay there again and recommend it to others.

They had amenities above and beyond what is usual for a hotel room.

The hallway was noisy - but it was New Year's Eve!

Location is top; I wish the transit from garage to lobby was better arranged for oldsters, it is a challenge. I'd stay there again.

Covers parking; great bar-restaurant; location.

Some rooms are dated; walk from garage can be tough.

Great value for the location. Room decor and bed linens was 3 stars for sure. Small bathroom meant shower only -- the biggest (and only) drawback.

Great location, room decor and amenities.

Would have been nice to have a bathtub.

Visitors to the Handlery Union Square Hotel may find themselves leaving their heart in San Francisco. The hotel has been owned and run by the Handlery family for the past 80 years. The hotel has 377 rooms and is ideally located in Union Square within walking distance to Macy's and other fine shopping. The Embarcadero is a 10 minute walk. Visitors can enjoy the views of the Bay Bridge and explore the variety of shops at the Ferry Marketplace. In the mood for dim sum, Chinatown is a short 5 block walk from the hotel. Here you can see fortune cookies being made. Of course no visit to San Francisco would be complete without a ride on the world famous trolley to Fisherman's Wharf. The sea lions will be out to greet you as you grab a bowl of clam chowder served in a bread bowl. Within sight are the walls of Alcatraz. Visitors can catch a ferry to the famous prison and retrace the steps of the bird man.
