Visitors to the Handlery Union Square Hotel may find themselves leaving their heart in San Francisco. The hotel has been owned and run by the Handlery family for the past 80 years. The hotel has 377 rooms and is ideally located in Union Square within walking distance to Macy's and other fine shopping. The Embarcadero is a 10 minute walk. Visitors can enjoy the views of the Bay Bridge and explore the variety of shops at the Ferry Marketplace. In the mood for dim sum, Chinatown is a short 5 block walk from the hotel. Here you can see fortune cookies being made. Of course no visit to San Francisco would be complete without a ride on the world famous trolley to Fisherman's Wharf. The sea lions will be out to greet you as you grab a bowl of clam chowder served in a bread bowl. Within sight are the walls of Alcatraz. Visitors can catch a ferry to the famous prison and retrace the steps of the bird man.

At the present time I am not sure if I would recommend the hotel. It is undergoing major construction. Reading other guests comments they have been rather disturbed by the construction. The noise is loud and annoying. However you cannot beat the hotel's location. Once the construction is finished I think this would be a nice hotel to stay at. The hotel has 377 comfortable rooms, each decorated with their own decor. No two rooms in the hotel look alike. Guests can choose from rooms in the Historic Section of the the hotel or the Club Section. The Club Section offers oversized rooms with balconies overlooking the outdoor pool or inner courtyard.

For those guests staying in The Club Section, they will enjoy newer larger rooms, and the benefits of bathrobes in the suites and a daily morning newspaper.
