Customer Reviews for Grand Hyatt San Francisco

Great location - posted on 05/05/2006

I feel like I got a great rate at this beautiful hotel. The rooms were warm with a sophistocated style. There was plenty to keep us busy within walking distance. However, a short cab ride could get us everywhere else. Also, the staff was extremely helpful in recovering my daughters teddy bear which had been left behind.

Great Location, no so good in services - posted on 10/18/2005

The location is perfect if you want to do shopping or business in downtown, however I do not recommend for traveling with kids. The staff was unfriendly and did not care about our needs, such as luggage handling.

Excellent location right off of Union Square. Convenient to all areas. You have to have a drink and or dinner in the Restaurant on the 36th floor. Views of the bay, Golden gate and the ocean.

The Hyatt staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel had ice machines which is not the case in a lot of downtown hotels. You walk out the front door and you can get transportation to any place you want to go in San Francisco.

Good Location... - posted on 03/01/2007

Felt a little mislead from the star rating. Rooms were a little small and could use some renovation. Awesome beds. Great location. Great service. Gym needs A LOT of improvement. Otherwise no complaints.

So-so at best - posted on 12/24/2006

Furniture was worn and table was provided - not a desk. Chairs don't fit under table. Internet is $10/day. No business center, no pool, no frills. Helpful staff. Needs renovation.

Spending Thanksgiving in San Francisco - posted on 11/27/2006

What a wonderful way to spend Thanksgiving! We could not have had a better time. The weather was great, the city so decorative -- with all its lights and Christmas decorations. The hotel was in a super location. This was our second trip to San Francisco this year so we definitely love it there.

We enjoyed our stay. Our room was well maintained and had a good view. The Chocolate Chip Cookie in the top floor bar is a must.

Great Hotel, Fabulous Location - posted on 10/16/2006

The room was fantastic. The staff at the lobby desk were great. Also, the location of this hotel was convenient. It was close enough to walk to the wharf or Chinatown if you wanted to. If not, transportation was within steps of the hotel.

solid as usual - posted on 07/10/2006

This was our second visit in as many years, and just as enjoyable. The Chinatown gate is three blocks away, and North Beach is an additional four more. The main cable car turn around is four blocks away. Our stay was during the first week in July and the concierge was incredibly helpful at every turn. The restaurant/bar has a gorgeous view, but is really an expensive indulgence. A tip to the cleaning staff at the beginning of our stay insured a very clean room and plenty of everything.

Union Sq - posted on 07/05/2006

The lobby and elevators stink of old cigar smoke. The cleaning staff couldn't have spent much time in the room and we didn't get any soap the last two days of our stay. The top floor lounge has very little seating area. There also seem to be a number of homeless people around the hotel asking for money. In less than one block we had 3 people asking us for money. One man was even so bold as to follow us into the Starbucks across the street and ask for money.

disappointed - posted on 06/14/2006

We stayed here several years ago and loved it. But it has gone down hill a lot. Public areas are fine but rooms need lots of attention: frayed carpet, bathroom tile stained and ungrouted. Also, they charge you "automatically" if you take a coffee cup to make your own coffee in the room ($3.50). Parking is $50 each day ( 43 + new tax of $6). Bellman service was slow. Dining is only on top floor and in a very small area. Service was below par and high priced. Overall, not too good and very high priced!

very nice except - posted on 05/22/2006

THE HOTEL WAS VERY NICE AND CENTRALLY LOCATED TO UNION SQUARE. THE ONLY DRAWBACK IS THE COFFEE SHOP IS ON THE 36TH FLOOR. WE WENT TO "SEARS RESTAURANT" AROUND THE CORNER AND HAD A WONDERFUL BREAKFAST. WOULD STAY AGAIN.

Do not need a CAR!! We rented a car and had to pay $43 a night to park at the hotel. Use public transportation. It is easy, safe, and less expensive.

The room was large, quiet (although on 4th floor), with large bathroom, and very comfortable king size bed. Hotel has excellent location in SF.

Great hotel - posted on 05/18/2006

I stayed with my mother and sister over the weekend. This hotel is in a wonderful location, central to all places tourists would love to go. The only complaint - when we got to our room, though it was beautiful and spacious, it smelled of body odor. When checked out the mini-bar, we found leftover Chinese food in the cabinet...apparently the cleaning crew missed it. Although the staff was apologetic regarding the smell and leftovers, I found the smell to be a bit distracting throughout the visit. Otherwise a great place, I plan to stay there again.

Grand Hyatt- nice hotel - minor noise problem - posted on 04/29/2006

Had a nice stay with Grand Hyatt during spring break. Close to the public transportation which was great. Nice room with view of Coit Tower. We were on the 17th floor in a corner room. The first night around 3-4am - woke up to noise outside - think it was the garbage pickup - but after, our next 6 days were great. Would recommend - but perhaps getting a higher floor would be better. Overall it was a nice stay....

San Fran Grand - posted on 04/26/2006

We just returned from our trip where we stayed at the Grand Hyatt. It is a great hotel right down town. This was a perfect location for us. There is no need for a car for we traveled all over on the Bart. The rooms at this hotel are older but they are clean and we had a fabulous view of the city. The staff here are wonderful. You can walk to Chinatown, it is a block from the Cable Car, and three blocks to the Bart. Shopping is all around this hotel!! You couldn't ask for a better location. I would stay here again.

HORRIBLE STAY - OPTIONAL SMOKING ROOM???? - posted on 04/14/2006

I reserved a non-smoking room with TWO beds, and I was told that there was only one NON-smoking room available with ONE bed. A rollaway bed was crammed against the window and leaned severely to one side. The room wreaked of smoke, had ashtrays and matches. The front desk & manager told me that this was an "OPTIONAL SMOKING ROOM";" no other rooms were available. They said nothing could be done to help me because I had booked the reservations online. Neither myself, nor my business partner, was able to sleep; we both suffered from the horrendous smoke odor.

Fast In, Creaky Night - posted on 01/17/2006

The Grand Hyatt is a great hotel with a great location right on Union Square. They have a great kiosk check-in/check-out system so you don't have to deal with long lines even if you need a "final" receipt for business claims. The one downside was that I was on teh 3rd floor, and as the building is built to be flexible, probably due to earthquake concerns, it creaks when the winds are high. A very unnerving sound effect if you are not familiar with the sound or cause of the noises. Overall, I would stay there again, but probably select a higher floor.

Fun Times in the City - posted on 01/03/2006

I have stayed at the other Hyatt in San Francisco, and thought I was booking for there. I was pleasantly surprised at how great my mistake was- the Grand Hyatt was in the perfect location (lots to see and do!) and I would definitely love to stay there again!

We often travel last minute. We have stayed at two other location very close to this one.We were pleased with the friendly staff and the attention to every detail and need. The rooms were nice. Would recomend this 9th floor club level. It has the club and your own fittness room. The local was fine. We shuttled to the airport, took the bart to town and the trolly to the wharf. It was fun.Am looking forward to a longer stay.Oh by the way I did have my familt we had two connected rooms.

Take walking distance to almost everything, a location in a central and safe part of town added to a seemingly omniscient concierge staff and you have a recipe for vacation nirvana.

The Grand Hyatt did not live up to my expectations. The bed was institutional, linens worn, and the hotel elevators very crowded. I would not return.

You Should Stay Here! - posted on 04/20/2005

This is a great hotel for San Francisco. The rooms are modern and in good condition. The location of the hotel couldn't be any better, close to Maiden Lane, Chinatown, and the cable cars for trips to Wharf and the Hyatt Embarcadero!! Loved our stay. Ask for a room with a view of Coit Tower - you won't be disappointed. For good parking use the Sutter Stockton Garage.
