Customer Reviews for Hampton Inn San Diego Downtown

Great Hampton! - posted on 02/21/2005

We stayed prior to a cruide out of SD. Beautiful Art Deco style (in NO need of updating). What trains? Good soundproofing. Great front desk staff. We stay at Hamptons almost exclusively & this is one of the best!

Happy Stay - posted on 05/30/2007

Good value. Very satisfied with all aspects. Very helpful and friendly staff. At check-in staff noted we would being staying 7 nights and made special effort to find us a nice room that would provide quiet away from the train tracks and a pleasant view. Schuttle service very helpful. Nice choices for free continental breakfast. Friendly staff. Great beds and pillows.

very pleased - posted on 05/27/2007

We called for the shuttle from the airport, they came within 5-10 minutes! We checked in early, had a great room, comfortable bed, nice breakfast(free). We felt fortunate to be close to many places and the trolley stopped right behind the hotel to take us anywhere else we needed. So no extra cost for a rental car or breakfast made this very much an afforable stay. The staff was great and the trains that ran at night did not bother us. You could use small foam earplugs if you are a light sleeper. We would definitely stay there again.

Our 5 Day stay - posted on 04/19/2007

The hotel is wonderful, close to everything and great breakfast. Just be aware the train is right outside and woke us up every 2 hours or so. I wouldn't stay there again due to that. If you don't mind trains at 2 and 4 a.m. then enjoy!

Perfect!! - posted on 03/01/2007

Very clean and comfortable accommodations and facilities. a 5 min. walk to the waterfront and restaurants but far enough away not to be distrubed by the tourist activites. Tasty breakfasts and easy parking for guest. Add another star!

Trains are a problem! - posted on 01/23/2007

Adding to other traveler's comments, we were awakened by at least six trains during the night! How can reviewers give this five stars? The trains are a BIG problem - believe it! Train horns were very loud and very few rooms can avoid it. I would not return. Stay away from all hotels in this busy railraod area, pay a little more and have a good night's sleep.

Waste of money - posted on 12/23/2006

I had a horrible experience at this hotel. I did not get much sleep because of two trains that scream by the rooms each night. Our non-smoking room reeked of cigarette smoke on our second night there. The toilet was not attached to the floor in the bathroom and the closet door would not close completely. I could not believe how run downed this hotel was compared to the others we saw in downtown San Diego. The staff was not helpful and rather rude. The hotel was overpriced for the awful quality.

Recommended! - posted on 06/29/2006

Great location ? close to the airport and Hwy 5, short walk to the water and to Seaport Village, short drive to the Gas Lamp district and Coronado. The staff was courteous and the breakfast was the best complimentary hotel breakfast I have had. Rooms were comfortable and clean. I?m not a light sleeper however the passing train even woke me up. The parking garage was $10/day.

Good choice - posted on 06/20/2006

Great location - can walk to anything in the downtown or harbor area from here. Breakfasts were better than expected, and the staff was among the best I've ever dealt with. Rooms were great, but, even in June, the outdoor pool was too cold for swimming; and, yes, the train line passes behind the building so that horn will wake you up about every other night.

Nice, but bring ear plugs! - posted on 05/13/2006

The hotel is clean and comfortable. The breakfast had real scrambled egss/biscuits. Parking garage has a low clearance. Very close to San Diego bay, airport and train station. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

Hampton Inn - San Diego - posted on 04/08/2006

This hotel was awesome. They provided shuttle service from the airport to the hotel and the next day also provided shuttle service to the cruise line. They would have also provided a shuttel service to anywhere within 3 miles of the hotel (e.g., San Diego Zoo).

Terrific - posted on 03/14/2006

On Feb 23, we brought a large group prior to a cruise. The staff at this hotel exceeded any prior expectation. When we returned and stayed 3/6-3/9, the staff continued to be gracious and helpfu and made our stay perfect. Our sincere thanks every single staff person. You were great and we will be back again!!

Not for light sleepers - posted on 01/25/2006

Overall we were very pleased with the hotel. We spent 1 night there pre-cruising and price, convenience, free shuttle, cleanliness & friendliness of staff were excellent. BUT the hotel is next to an active train line and starting at 1 AM the whistle blew all night every time a train went through. If you are a light sleeper this may not be the place for you.

Great Place to Stay! - posted on 10/09/2005

I have stayed at many hotels and this one exceeded my expectations! The staff was extremely attentive and went above and beyond to help out. It had a great "continental" (it was more than a continental breakfast), breakfast to go, shuttle that was extremely accommidating, rooms were clean, bathroom was enormous and the location was great to many things in San Diego. Can't say enough about this hotel!

Great Location - posted on 10/04/2005

I am Hilton Honors Member who always stays here when in San Diego. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. Everything in Downtown area and harborfront is walking distance. For the price this is the best value in SD.

My experience... - posted on 07/25/2005

Great value for the money. This is one hotel that is totally underrated and is so much more. For example, the "continental breakfast" actually had warm egss and ham! And the beds were comfortable and the bathrooms top notch and very clean. And they even give you shower gell with the shampoo. That is value!

The trains... - posted on 10/20/2004

This hotel is on the tracks and the trains run late into the night and early in the morning. There is no hiding from them. Light sleepers beware. Price, location, service all good, but the trains!

A good value - posted on 10/19/2004

We paid $/night for our weekend trip to SD. It was definitely worth it. It was about a 15-20 minute walk to Gaslamp Quarter/10 minutes to the USS Midway/harbor cruises/15-20 minutes to Seaport Village.Breakfast not extravagant but was just right for people looking to eat something and start their day. TV didn't work (most channels did not come through) but we were out so much, it didn't matter.Would definitely stay here again. Ask for a room near the front to minimize train noise.
