Staff was helpful with plans for Seaworld and sympathetic over rain. They offered great directions to local attractions and the room was right on the marina...very pretty. The fridge and coffee machine is in the bathroom which is a little weird and the room was tight, but clean and in good shape.

While the hotel was beautiful and the staff was very friendly and helpful, we were kept awake all night. First, about 2am the fog horn started, then in the early morning hours our room was surrounded by ducks quacking away. Seriously. Ask for a room away from the ducks.

My family of 5 stayed for 7 nights and enjoyed every minute. The pool is AWESOME and the location of hotel is ideal...centrally located between downtown (south) and mission beach/sea world (north). Very close to deep sea fishing and boat rentals. The 2 room suite with kitchen was ideal for our family. The shelter island park/walkway was beautiful. Staff met our every need. We will return to this location on our next visit to San Diego

I came in for a convention with 6 other college students. The queen suite was perfect for us. The room was very clean and looked rather updated. The bathroom was large with two sinks and could easily fit all of our supplies. The kitchen was very convenient. The location was great - it's only a short drive away from many of the attractions and the views of the marina from our hotel window were excellent. The staff was very helpful and polite. Overall, we had a very pleasant experience with this hotel and would likely stay again in the future.
Not What I hoped for - posted on 11/05/2005
This hotel is more a motel. If you are used to nice hotels you will be disappointed here. The views are obstructed (marina side)by the roof of the room below or across 2 parkinglots and a service road (bay). Noisy on the bay side as you are over the parking lot.Not a luxury hotel.Probably good for families because of the kitchen.

We stayed at BW Island Palms Hotel 5 nights. We loved our Marina view Queen suite overlooking a beautiful garden, waterfront and boats. Friendly staff, clean, large 2 room suite with kitchen/LR for the price- great value with our Entertainment card, great food, loved the palm trees,pool/hot tub area, free bike rentals to a get around, great area for walkers, joggers, kayaks, sailing. Great location near downtown and airport but with a tropical island feel.I'd definitely go back again. Only drawbacks were the screaming baby in the room below us for 2 nights and the noisy toilet. Well worth it!!!

Our room was small, dark and depressing. The only view we got were of stairs. The bathroom didn't have a tub to bathe my son. We ended up leaving after the first night. The hostess from the restaurant was unfriendly. She sat everybody ahead of us but when she got to us they were suddenly "short staffed" and offered to seat us in the bar...a 2 year old on a bar stool?! Not a child friendly place to stay. This place felt more like a motel than a hotel. We found a much better place in hotel circle that was cheaper and 100% nicer.

Small rooms, things shoe horned in, no workspace. Bathroom was large, no tub, no shelves for toiletries in shower. Bathroom exhaust fan very dirty. A/C very noisy, filter dirty, so was ceiling fan. Room was hot. Good sized pool, not very warm. Hot tub was nice. Restaurant was slow, nice view, wait staff inept. Nice patio dining. Parking non-existent don?t move your car until check out. Won?t let you check in until 4pm. Professionally staffed. Updated, possibly older hotel. $5/night for slow wireless Internet.
Great Value and Location - posted on 08/09/2005
Clean although small room. Bathroom was good size. Friendly staff and well maintained facility. Great to see ocean liners floating by close up! Restaurant has above average ambiance for the type of property. Our room was next to kitchen delivery so rather noisy. The air craft engine testing across the bay was definitely annoying until 11:00 pm. Fortunately they did not test on weekend nights. All things considered I would definitely go back. The central location on Shelter Island can't be beat.

We really enjoyed our visit at Island Palms Best Western! It was close enough to everything you wanted to see, but it was set on Shelter Island and so gave it a resort area feel to it and lots of room to breath in the scenery. A good deal for the $$$.

Shelter Bay is a beautiful area of San Diego Bay. The location is superb with one side of hotel facing large marina and the other facing the bay. Pool area very large, but sheltered. Great spa. Rooms were very clean and well decorated. Bathrooms were clean and large. No free continental breakfast; however, free hi speed internet (wireless) available. Would definitely return. Excellent $ value based upon the end product. Only negative, they really do hold you to a strict 4PM check-in which is a slight pain after a long day driving.
