pleasent surprise - posted on 05/07/2007

i chose this hotel mainly because of the location. it is only a short walk to little italy and the trolley and only a 10 minute walk to the coronado ferry. this hotel is clean, quiet and has a nice pool and hot tub.

Ok for a one nighter - posted on 04/20/2007

We stayed at this hotel for convience since it was close to Sea World. It was just five minutes away. It was walking distance to several resturants. The pool was in a strange location...people could watch you swim or lay out while they were checking in, so we did not use the pool and that was something we really wanted to do. Overall nice for what we needed.

Rooms need updated - posted on 04/05/2007

Staff was very helpful and friendly. Rooms need a lot of TLC. Chairs broken and thread bare. Holes in some bath towels. Not real clean. Sliding glass door would not lock. Great Bay View! Would not stay again.

Bay Side Best Western - posted on 03/21/2007

Price for downtown San Diego was right but the trains that go thru there and echo all night are bad. Plus right now there is construction in the bldg next door and they worked on Sat. early!

Poor - posted on 03/18/2007

Rooms needed to be updated. Carpets very worn and soiled. Bedspreads faded. Room was dirty- found hair in sheets! Train noise very loud on Harbor side. Awoke us at 3 a.m and 5 a.m. Then the construction (next door) began at 6:45 a.m! We moved to a nicer hotel. This motel should be rated as a 1 1/2 to 2 star Hotel. It is not a 3 star Hotel as advertised.

Nice loaction. This is a safe bet for the San Diego area. Moderate price, moderate room. Friendly staff and a nice grill next door. Not your upscale place, just a small hotel to sleep. Walking distance to shore, Seaport Village and Little Italy.

My non-smoking room smelled like smoke.

Good but could have been better - posted on 12/12/2006

Staff was great. Rooms were clean and comfortable. It was only three blocks from the waterfront and close to restaurants, bus and trolley. Our only BIG complaint was the smoking policy. Although we requested a non-smoking room, at least half the rooms on the floor were smoking. If they allow smoking it would be a kindness to put all smokers or non-smokers on individual floors. They just passed a law banning smoking at parks and beaches! I don't understand why it is still allowed in hotels.

It's Okay!! - posted on 12/12/2006

The room we stayed in was perfect. The garage needs an elevator or to notify customers to drop baggage in front before parking. Front Desk seem shorthanded...long line to check in and out. Alot of construction around the area

Convenient - posted on 11/09/2006

Great place to stay downtown. Not fancy, but comfortable. Walked to the waterfront, close to the Trolley and Bus so it's easy to get to the Zoo, Balboa Park, and the football stadium. The staff was helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good, service was fast and friendly, too. There's a convenience store close by that we visited everyday. We had a city view room, a harbor view would have improved the experience!

Better places to say in San Diego - posted on 09/14/2006

We had a great view of the harbor. However the staff failed to inform us they would be washing windows the mornings we were there. My wife and I woke up to a man standing on our patio and the sound of a steel cable clanking against the railing. We were given a $40 creidt to the restaurant/bar which was nice. One of the elevators was out of order the entire time we were there and so was the internet.

We were very very pleased with our stay at the Best Western. Room was very clean, free breakfast gave us plenty to eat. Upgraded our room to have a view with bay and no problem when we arrived it was all taken care of. Location was perfect for walking to a lot of things and close to train to get to other things we wanted to see. We did not rent a car. If we go back we will stay here again and not necessary for us to rent car. We had a GREAT TRIP!

Recent Stay - August 2006 - posted on 08/14/2006

Hotel was dirty all over. Resturant was not good and the service was poor. Our room that we booked (king bed) was not available and we were put in a room with 2 full beds. Floor was wet most of the week and the room smelled like cat urine. We were unable to get the hotel to move us to another room and were forced to stay there.

Excellent Stay! - posted on 08/07/2006

The hotel was in a great location, ~1/2 mile from the harbor. The train noise might bother light sleepers. The front desk was helpful and friendly; they were happy to call a cab and helped me with everything I needed. It was a great stay!

From the moment we landed at the airport and called for a shuttle, to the morning the shuttle dropped us off at the cruise terminal, things went smoothly. Our room was so perfect. We had requested an upper floor so we could have a nice view of the cruise terminal. It couldn't have been better! We had a perfect view from our balcony window when the Carnival Spirit arrived in port. Our room was kept spotless, we enjoyed the complimentary breakfasts, and room service was great too.

Pretty Decent - posted on 10/05/2005

I decided to stay at the BW despite the reviews due to proximity to my client, dining, waterfront, etc. Staff was friendly, helpful, responsive. This BW has a partnership with a real gym 4 blocks away which is nice. I really enjoyed going there. My room was clean. The shuttle to the airport was always just when I requested it. I was pleasantly surprised at the number of tasty, healthy dinner options at the hotel's cafe. Stay on the back side on an upper floor to avoid train noise.

Not as convenient as seems - posted on 09/27/2005

The smell of this hotel is awful from foyer to rooms. Not as convenient as I was led to believe on website. Had to hunt down shuttle service and then took cab. Felt a little unsafe at night.

San Diego Trip - posted on 08/24/2005

This hotel was perfectly located in the city and easy to find. The room was well maintained, but the parking left a lot be desired. There was very little parking available and access to the hotel from the parking garage was non-existent. Needs serious improvement. The restaurant attendents were completely unattentive. Otherwise, we had a great stay.

A great night in beautiful downtown San Diego - posted on 08/02/2005

What a nice visit and a GREAT value! The room was clean and spacious, had a private balcony and the place was quiet, although fully booked. The location is perfect for walking to all major downtown and harborside attractions. Don't expect the Ritz... you usually get what you pay for, but this was a surprisingly great value. The pool was very nice and the parking garage was roomy even though it was almost full. Parking costs $7/day. We never had to wait more than a minute for an elevator.

Satisfied traveler - posted on 06/20/2005

The location was perfect for us. The room was large, nicely furnished and clean. We were on the bayside and had a wonderful view of the harbor. It was worth the extra expense. The staff was cordial and very helpful. The continental breakfast was good and enough choices to satisfy different tastes. Parking was sufficient in early June.

Wonderful San Diego trip - posted on 05/08/2005

This was our first time in San Diego. The hotel was in a great location; just a few blocks away from Gaslamp, downtown restaurants. Also not far to zoo, Sea World. My city view room was roomy and comfortable, included microwave and fridge. Staff was terribly rude and not helpful at all. Housekeeping-nice but didn't knock before entering room. Waited over an hour for a cold breakfast. Went elsewhere for breakfast on the remainder of trip. Great place to stay if you don't mind an unfriendly staff. Free parking is advertised in 3-ring binder in room but they try to charge $7/day.

Good Value - posted on 12/02/2004

Dynamite location with walking to San Diego Bay itself and downtown shopping / entertainment. Closet had lower bar interfering with ironing board amid very cramped space and location. Tight spaces in parking garage - too many SUV's.

Good Location - posted on 10/07/2004

The hotel is in a quiet location.A city bus runs in front of thehotel and goes to Old Town. The elevators are slow and noisy. There is a very brightlight on the microwave that isalways on. That isn't necessary. The restaurant wasn't very far from the hotel. One needs gooutside but is in the same block. The food is good andreasonabley priced.
