Loved our stay - posted on 08/09/2006
We recently visited Monterey and stayed at the Portola Plaza Hotel and had a wonderful experience. The staff was wonderful and very helpful. My daughter loved the hotel, especially the rubber seal they left her for bath time! Overall our expereince was great and I would recommend the Portola Plaza to anyone who is going to Monterey.
Very friendly people - posted on 05/15/2007
We stayed there during Valentines weekend of 2007. The room was suppose to be done up with special flowers and balloons. That did not happen however, they did make it up to us by up grading us to a suite. The Guy at the desk was super nice, super friendly and a total professional. The staff made up for the no specialty room by up grading us, we got cookies, robes, champagne. I loved it there and would stay again. The Golf tourney was in town but they were very attentive to my husband and me.

The first night we did not get any rest. We could hear the guests in the next room from 1-4:30 in the morning. Our room was against an alley between shops. First thing in the morning and late at night all you could hear was people yelling and talking really loud all hours of the night. When I phoned to complain they promised to move us to a new room. No such luck! They never responded after my 4:30 am phone call.

During Busy AT&T Pro-Am, X was right there making reservations, etc..Thanks for X for sending us to the same restaurant as Vijay Singh. It was great to see him walk in!

Very clean, great location, and friendly staff. My only complaint, is the noise level at night. However, not bad enough to deter me from visiting again.
Wonderful Experience - posted on 12/03/2006
We booked reservations for our entire family. Six adults and three children and they went out of their way to may our stay comfortable. The hotel was very nice, very accomodating and all in all a great experience. We would definately stay there again.
Love this Hotel! - posted on 08/25/2006
I stayed here for business and will definitely come come back for fun. Loved the location - in the heart of downtown, short walk to wharf, and just off the trail that takes you to Cannery Row and the beach.
Best place to stay in Monterey - posted on 08/23/2006
I can't be happier with the hotel room and the staff. I have stayed here many times and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else when I come to Monterey County. The rooms are decorated beautiful, the location is perfect.. just leave the car parked. Friendly staff and you can't forget about their cookies.
Terrible Vacation, ruined By Birds - posted on 08/13/2006
We were here for our 25th wedding anniv. Well the room they gave was on the main drag of the hotel, very small room, and very noisy. Birds flocking allover, seals from the marina barking, kids screaming, people working outside. I called and arranged for a better room. Not much better, but a little less noise. Had to have a couple of beers in order to sleep. Pool is for the Kids only. I do not recom. this hotel for couples who want to have a romantic vacation. Stay in Carmel, What a shame, this use to be a first class hotel.

If you stay at this hotel you are paying for location. That's it. We stayed in a "premium" room, which was unremarkable. No in-room safe, no bath robes, no cable channels. Small bathtub. $14 parking charge. Hotel breakfast is not worth the extra $20 you pay for the 'premium' room.
Speak up! - posted on 11/26/2005
We that the worst Thanksgiving dinner ever in Jack's Restaurant. Filet came out over done, dry and luke warm plus 1.25 hrs after our soup/salad! Staff tried to appease us by giving us mashed potatoes AFTER our dinner was done. Dessert was a joke. Spoke to the restaurant manager who was not going to do anything. Had to speak to the Hotel Manager before got any satisfaction. Breakfast had cold eggs and potatoes!
Great & Comfortable Getaway! - posted on 08/17/2005
Hotel was gorgeous and spacious! In addition it was also steps literally away from the wharf and not too bad of a walking distance to Cannery Row. But luckily the city trolley that takes you there stops right in front of the hotel. And the B & B Works toiletries were a good bonus in the rooms! However, pool and spa got a little crowded when we used it- it was a little small. But we still had a great time!

Nothing remarkable (which is usually good). Room was fine. No AC proved not to be a problem. Good location (right by the warf). Definately geared toward the business traveller. Kids loved the room service.

Great hotel - posted on 01/10/2005
Our stay was fabulous. Our room was so clean; restaurant was fantastic; lobby and bar area was beautiful with so many lounge chairs to sit and relax or read. The decor of course was beautiful. The bathroom has poor lighting; needs brighter lights. Short walk to the wharf and great shopping. Will diffinitely go back. Thanks for a great time

clean, but need decent blankets. Also, a big hotel like this did not the much in the way of flowers and folliage/pottery that is attractive to women. A very plain hotel. However, there were trees there for christmas, very plain though.I had trouble getting service from the front desk, but was accomodated after 3 calls.

I highly recommend the Portola Plaza (formerly Doubletree Hotel) in Monterey for either the leisure traveler or for anyone going to Monterey for business. The staff is well trained and keeps the property well maintained. The location is excellent and I feel it is the nicest hotel on the Monterey Peninsula. With the name change it is still the same superb hotel.
Room Temp - posted on 08/03/2004
The room was always hot. At 8:00AM on Monday a guy was out in your courtyard with a high pressure water blaster, which we were woken to and did not appreciate. At this time I would not stay there again.
