hip & cool - posted on 03/13/2007

love this hotel for many things, but the service is awful. wakeup calls often don't happen, maid took a shirt out of the closet, valet is the worst in LA

Rooms are not worth the money - posted on 01/31/2007

No need to stay at this hotel. The best features are the public areas (rooftop bar and lobby areas) that I've visited in the past. his visit was my first stay and I booked a Wow room. I was "wowed" by the absense of any wow factor. The room was very large, but had the look and feel of a high school cafeteria. Furnishing were cheap and lacked any interesting elements/features of the public areas. The one attempt at decoration was a large plastic foot (imagine King Kong's) in the bathroom. After two minutes it was no longer interesting.

My favorite LA hotel - posted on 07/23/2006

This is the best hotel in LA. Unique styling, great service, free wi-fi, *excellent* breakfast in restaurant. The view from the rooftop bar is magnificent, although the crowd there is a little young. I've stayed twice and will again soon.

Nice to see once, but would not stay here again. - posted on 03/16/2005

Stayed here on for business. Chic lobby; nice rooftop bar. Stay elsewhere. Front desk staff not friendly. Room clean. Bed not comfortable. Room service good. I had security concerns, as the elevators to the rooms are right inside the front door, out of view of the lobby and front desk, so anyone can walk in off the street and take the elevators up to the guest room floors. Ask for a room that is not on the north side of the building. At 4:30 a.m. a big truck pulled into the alley and was doing something very loud that lasted 20 minutes. I could here the tv in the room next to mine.

The Standard - posted on 03/15/2005

The hotel is decorated in a very modern style. What no one has mentioned are the showers. There is no shower curtain or doors. If you are sitting in your room you can see the person in the shower. There is no privacy whatsoever. The food in the hotel diner was great! Too bad the service was terrible. Very slow. This hotel is overpriced and overrated.

WORTH EVERY PENNY - posted on 10/05/2004

I just got home from my stay at the Standard hotel downtown LA. The place is great!! All the stuff I read about the staff being rude and cold is completely unfounded. In fact that's the very reason I chose the Standard(long story). I was disapointed-they were all really nice, smiled, and were everywhere. The rooftop was great----soooo comfy.
