About the The Standard Downtown LA

This ain’t your grandaddy’s hotel, folks. Chic is the best adjective to describe the former home of the Standard Oil Company, which is now Downtown’s Standard Hotel. 60’s Mod styling throughout attracts a somewhat younger crowd, and let’s face it, the rooftop bar doesn’t hurt either. Expect to see the young professionals mixing and mingling here after a hard day at the office. It is so happening, in fact, that hotel guests receive a wristband to guarantee admission. So, if you aren’t adverse to funky furniture and suggestive bathroom artwork, check out and then check into the Downtown Standard.

Five years ago, people wouldn’t have been caught dead Downtown after dark, especially not COOL people. The Standard changed that. It is centrally located, tragically hip and unapologetically loud… guess what, people LOVE it. You’d never decorate your home like this (though the teenager inside you secretly wants to), but then, you’re not at home. The sleek, sexy Standard really set the, well, standard for fashionably fabulous accommodations. With the bar up top and your room just below, the possibilities are endless. The Standard Downtown LA Accommodations

The 207 guest rooms are definitely geared more to the leisure traveler, as each is furnished with a DVD player, music system and bathroom with an oversize tub. That is not to say that it is inadequate for the business traveler, though, with huge desks, high-speed Internet and cordless room phones.

Amenities offered

The rooftop pool is the best feature here at the Standard, lest we not forget the 24-hour (bright yellow) on-site restaurant, and the rooftop bar. There is also an on site concierge, great fitness center, 24-hour room service and business center. They even have a doctor on-call. What more could you ask for? A view, you say? The nighttime skyline is the incredible Downtown. This is the only real grouping of tall buildings in LA, and they look pretty spectacular after the sun goes down.

From the 110: Get off at the 6th Street exit and turn left into the parking just after Flower Street. It is all one-ways Downtown, so don’t miss it.

From the subway (Metro): Get off the red line at 7th Street/Metro Center stop, and walk 1 block North on Flower.
