Scottsdale has earned its reputation as being a top destination for art connoisseurs. With over 125 art galleries to choose from, you’ll have your work cut out for you. But if you only have time for a few, we suggest the Scottsdale Museum for Contemporary Art and the Heard Museum. The Scottsdale Museum for Contemporary Art has a fascinating collection of art representing works from renowned artists from around the globe. Make sure you visit the stunning outdoor gallery as well. Focusing on the Native American art, the Heard Museum attracts thousands of visitors each year. If you’re considering a trip here and you’re traveling with a golf lover, be prepared. The fantastic climate and beautiful scenery are the perfect ingredients for a golf course. And Scottsdale has taken advantage of it. With over 200 courses available, it’s a Mecca for those who love the game of golf. Ranging from the more forgiving courses to those that challenge the best of the best, a round here is a great experience. Just as a side note, some of the more established courses can set you back a bit. It’s a lot of work keeping the greens green in the middle of the desert.
Enjoy some of Scottsdale’s natural beauty up close and visit one of its many parks. The McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is quite popular and is filled with great picnic areas and playgrounds. You’ll also be able to enjoy the Paradise and Pacific Railroad, a train that takes you on a one-mile tour throughout the scenic park. You’ll also enjoy a ride on the beautiful Scottsdale Charro Carousel. Although the park is filled with fun activities, it also provides some education, such as the Merci Train. When Americans heard how devastated France was after the war, they banded together and delivered 250 railroad cars filled with supplies to help rebuild the people of France. As a thank you one short year later, the French sent over a few train cars of their own filled with thank yous, including war medals and wooden shoes, to the American people. Indian Bend Wash has quickly become another of the city’s more popular parks. It’s a fantastic place to go for a jog, play a game of soccer or even go fishing at its beautiful lake.
Get a feel of what life would have been like during the gold rush days when you explore the bona fide Goldfield Ghost Town. Dating back to the 1890s you’ll see carriages, wagons and even a few horses. It’s a weird feeling walking through and seeing the abandoned buildings. And although everything is geared towards the ol’ west, jeep tours of the Superstition Mountains are available. Rawhide, an authentic 1880s western town, attracts lots of visitors because of all the great activities it boasts. Enjoy looking at the handmade jewelry, riding on a wagon, feasting at the famous Steakhouse, panning for gold and strolling through the saloon. Just make sure you get out of the way when the gunfights break out. Scottsdale has held on to its western roots with the many equestrian activities that still exist. However, it’s not just the Western style that’s showcased. Whether it’s the English style, jumping, parades or roping, try catching a show and see these stunning creatures perform at their very best.
Oh what joy the shopping in Scottsdale brings to those who love to explore the world of fashion. There are wonderful options ranging from bargain hunting to giving your credit card the workout of a lifetime. The Scottsdale Fashion Square is considered to be one of the top ten malls across the nation. It also happens to be the largest shopping mall in Arizona. You’ll find large department stores like Macy’s, Neiman-Marcus and Nordstrom as well as BCBG, Louis Vuitton, and Coach. Another great shopping experience can be had at the Biltmore Fashion Park. Enjoy the fantastic Scottsdale sun as you stroll outside along the paths that lead you to one great boutique after another. For a more unique venue, make your way to the El Pedregal Festival Marketplace. It’s a wonderful collaboration of high-end fashion with ensembles that won’t make your bank freeze your account. And after a day of shopping at the Marketplace, you can enjoy a delicious bite to eat at one of the many restaurants in the area.
Although it has a great reputation for its pristine golf courses, fascinating museums and world-class cuisine, Scottsdale also has a fine reputation for its nightlife. There are over 80 clubs and bars for you to choose from. And although that number doesn’t seem too large, it might encourage you to know that it has one of the highest concentrations of nightclubs across the nation. Yee Haw! So after a great day at the course, malls, saloons or parks, kick up your feet and enjoy putting the sun to sleep in Scottsdale.
