When I drove up to this hotel, my first thought was, "What's a nice log cabin long house doing in a place like this?" The exterior has a back country rustic charm, which is at odds with its urban setting. It is, however, convenient to the Ted Stevens International Airport and Lake Hood, the busiest float plane base in the world. The lobby is sparse and note that there is no restaurant on site. The front desk staff was polite and helpful.

If this property were in the bush, it would be just what I expected. But in the city, it doesn't work as well for me. The starkness of the lobby was not terribly welcoming and the carpets and walls needed a good cleaning. To be fair, I viewed the property a week ago and when I called today to ask about pets, they told me that the carpets had just been cleaned, which was my biggest concern about the property. I would stay there in a pinch, but let's just say that I would never put my mother there overnight. Read our customer reviews?
The rooms are long and narrow, like the exterior of the property. There are 54 rooms with all of the basics, cable TV, and a coffee maker with a tea selection. If you upgrade, there are rooms with a refrigerator and microwave available.
Bonus! The Long House Alaskan Hotel provides a courtesy shuttle to the airport AND to downtown and the train station. There is also a laundry room available, which is handy if you are fishing or enjoying an extended trip to Alaska. They provide a walk-in freezer for your trophy fish, game, or groceries. There is a complimentary breakfast available. They also offer free local calls.
