Those interested in visiting Alaska are probably quite curious about what this beautiful state has to offer. In short, you won’t be able to take your eyes off of the scenery. The mountains, glaciers, wildlife and quaint towns are beautiful. The crisp, fresh air is a welcomed treat from the city smog. Most towns and villages are only accessible by sea or air but however you arrive you’ll be so glad you came.
The activities you can do in Alaska almost seem surreal. Who would ever think of going bear watching or dog sledding? For a really neat experience take a helicopter ride to the top of a glacier and feel the mass of ice under your feet. You’ll be surprised at how blue the water streams are up here. Another great way to enjoy the view is to climb on board a railroad tour. Some of the other exciting activities you can partake in include kayaking, horseback riding, and fishing… lots of fishing. Get ready for huge salmon, halibut and rainbow trout, just be prepared to need some help in getting your catch out of the water. You can watch the northern lights dance in front of you from September to May. As a side note, you’ll only be able to enjoy the show on very cold, clear nights so dress warmly and bring along a cup of hot coco.
Volcanoes in the snow? As odd as it might sound, it’s true for the Aleutian Islands. Alaska has over 30,000 miles of shoreline and a lot of islands. Choosing which Alaskan territory to explore is all part of a great Alaskan experience. Although the scenery will make it hard for you to venture indoors, take the time to explore the quaint shops in the towns. There’s a wealth of fantastic artwork and beautiful jewelry to be found. Alaska also has its share of phenomenal restaurants and local dishes, especially those made with salmon.
How are you going to fit this all in? Alaska has 24 hours like everyone else but during the summer months they tend to get about four hours of nighttime. However, the winter months tell a bit of a different story. Whenever you come you’ll be so glad you took the time to explore this amazing state.
