The 295-room Marriott Birmingham was designed for the business traveler but is equally suited to the tourist seeking quality accommodation at an affordable price. The eight-story, non-smoking full-service hotel has 15 meeting rooms for business or social events. The largest, the Birmingham Ballroom, can accommodate 700 guests. Items included with the room rate are a morning newspaper, parking, local telephone calls and coffee available in the lobby 24/7. The hotel adjoins the Grandview Corporate Park. Area landmarks and attractions include the Alabama Adventure Amusement Park, the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, Birmingham Botanical Gardens, the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame and the Mercedes Benz factory and visitor center.

Couples said this was a great place for a weekend getaway. They noted that the rates were lower since the business clients stayed at home. Many liked the quiet location and pleasant walks close to the property. Other plus factors were the flat-screen televisions, the large fitness center and a crew of employees eager to help and assist. All the guestrooms, and four suites, have a large work desk with high-speed Internet access. There is a plug-in panel that connects a laptop, MP3, DVD players or video game player to the room’s 32-inch LCD HDTV. Other facilities include cable movie and news channels, pay-per-view movies, alarm clock, tea and coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, and two-line telephone with voicemail and speakerphone.

The hotel’s River City Grille is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Room service is available from 6.30am until 11pm. There are numerous restaurants a short drive from the hotel including a Logan’s Steakhouse, Cheesecake Factory, PF Chang’s and a Macaroni Grill. The hotel has an indoor swimming pool and fitness center. The 24-hour front desk has safe deposit boxes and there is a full-service business center. Other amenities include a coin-operated laundry, vending machines, concierge desk, valet dry-cleaning, an ATM and a gift shop and newsstand.

From Birmingham Airport (BHM) 12 miles: Take I-20 East to I 459 South (Montgomery/Tuscaloosa). Remain on I-459 South to Exit 19 (Mountain Brook/Childersburg). Stay to the left following the Childersburg and Highway 280 East signs. Take a right at the end of the exit onto Highway 280 East. Go to the second traffic light and turn left onto Grandview Parkway where the hotel is located.
