Poor service - posted on 06/16/2005
We were excited about our stay at the Tutweiler until we arrived. They were in the process of hosting two wedding parties. We waited for two hours for a room after check-in time. We were told it could possibly be another hour before a room was available. They had several people with five o'clock checkouts. We were shocked at the lack of courtesy and service. The management was very unaccommodating. We had to find another hotel and check out our luggage. The Bellman was very helpful and friendly. There should have been some compensation for our trouble and time. It is a very beautiful place, but they need help in their customer service.

This hotel is gorgeous! The staff is so friendly. The room service is speedy and delicious! Definately would recommend to anyone. We plan to return soon!
Historic Hotel perhaps overpriced - posted on 07/26/2006
As a longtime Birmingham resident now relocated to Atlanta, I've always wanted to stay at the Tutwiler. It's a great old brick building with lots of history. However, the hotel could use some basic infrastructure improvements. The Ac was noisy. The bathroom had old furnishings and no exhaust fan. This would have all been fine, but for the money, I'd just assume stay elsewhere. It just wasn't worth it. It is nice to be within a few steps of the Museum of Art, and I'd recommend a trip over to anyone who stays at the hotel.

Expensive for Birmingham, so expected better quality. When I drove to main entrance, found the driveway blocked by hotel shuttle, parked cars. Circled block 3 times, enter from side entrance to ask them to clear driveway. Not fun at 10PM in a dark, deserted, unsafe downtown. Room smelled of mold, cigarettes, carpet stained, worn, no Internet cable. Light breakfast (some fruit, a piece of toast, a juice and a cup of coffee) $20, poor value for B'ham. Location was convenient, unlikely to return.

The service was very good.Make sure you bring cash for tipping. The location was nice, and the lobby, restaraunt, etc. was nice. I felt that the rooms were very overpriced considering the condition of the rooms and lack of ammenities, etc. I don't think I'll stay there again.

Non-smoking rooms smelled of smoke, ice in a "freezer" on 2nd floor for guests, water and bath smelled of mildew. Reservation to be connected or next to my children, they were placed down the hall after 2 calls to confirm placement. Offered a room with a sofa bed, no linen available, one hour wait for linen. Hotel continued to state was booked full, not a soul in site. Concierge polite and the cable tv was best amenity. Food at on site dining was as if they had to go out and kill the cow and grow veggies!

You cannot ask for better customer service than that provided by front desk and valet. Really enjoyed my stay!

We stayed there during our honeymoon. The place was beautiful and the people were very helpful. The service was the best I had ever experienced in a hotel. The balcony over looking the city was beautiful.

Stayed here two nights. Room comfortable even though a little on smallish side especially with king bed. Comfortable bedding. Bathroom was a bit dated & in need of some minor repairs. Overall a good place to stay
