Puerto Rico Country Guide

Puerto Rico is an amazing destination filled with adventure, stunning scenery and friendly people whose warm hospitality lingers long after you first arrive. Although it is a commonwealth to the US it lies in the Caribbean Sea. The entire area includes the main island as well as a few smaller islands. This amazing place is proud of its long history even though there are modern shopping malls and high-end hotels. Uncovering all that it has to offer will provide you with many fantastic memories.

Puerto Rico is jammed packed with cities, buildings and people, although each area, of which there are five, has its own unique flavor. At the north end of the island you will find San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico. It is packed with visitors, as it is also home to fantastic hotels, shopping, interesting sites and beautiful beaches. At the center of Puerto Rico you will find some of the islands most beautiful scenery. Waterfalls, lush forests, parks and gardens await for you and your camera. To experience Puerto Rico’s authentic cultures you will want to visit the south end of the island. Beach lovers will enjoy the eastern side of the island. It is at this point where you can catch a ferry to some of the surrounding islands. One definitely worth visiting is Mosquito Bay. The east side is also home to the Caribbean National Forest. The seafood restaurants located at this section of the island are another great reason for visiting. The west side of the island is also great beach area, especially if you enjoy surfing and diving. Interestingly enough, the sun always seems to shine just a little bit more over here.

Puerto Rico eagerly boasts about its history. One of the most famous buildings in Puerto Rico is of Parque de Bombas, an historic firehouse. Visit the town of San German and you will come across the Porta Coeli Church, which was built back in 1606 and that makes it one of the oldest churches in the New World. In fact, San German itself is one of Puerto Rico’s oldest settlements. For those who happen to be here at the right time, Mass is held three times per year. The architecture found throughout the area known as Ponce also showcases its past. Ponce is a beautiful city whose streets are lined with various architectural styles. Its historic center is an ideal place to see buildings that date back over 100 years. The Museo de Arte de Ponce is an amazing place to enjoy the various art collections that rival that of any top rated museum in the US. The historic district of San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico, is filled with stunning homes that date back hundreds of years, especially in the district known as Old San Juan. The street known as Calle Isabel is one of the best places to see the various styles of architecture. Those interested in today’s creations will enjoy Ocean Park, Isla Verde and Condado.

Although the architecture is worth seeing, the various landscapes and topographies that call Puerto Rico home are also worth exploring. Filled with mountain peaks and sandy beaches, the Puerto Rican landscape varies quite a bit. The Guanica State Forest is a beautiful place to visit and is also a United Nations Biosphere Reserve. Keep your eyes open for the exotic birds that have found protection here. Make your way underground to the Rio Camuy caves and explore these impressive structures. The family will enjoy exploring all the creatures that call the Juan A. Rivero Zoo home. The Tropical Agriculture Research Station is another wonderful place to see the various flora that grows in abundance in Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico is home to one of the largest shopping centers in the Caribbean. Plaza las Americas is packed with designer duds for you to find. Those who enjoy more bang for their buck will want to visit the outlet malls that call Puerto Rico home. After a long day of exploring, seeing an authentic cockfight, shopping or simply enjoying the golden coasts, you can relax with a glass of Bacardi rum. Interestingly enough the distillery here produces close to 100,000 gallons of rum each day. Wonder if there are enough glasses?

Known for their exuberance for life, Puerto Ricans will make you feel alive. This is a place where traditions are cherished and where life is celebrated. Puerto Rico will quickly become one of your favorite destinations.
