With the Sierra Madre Mountains as a backdrop and the blue Pacific Ocean at your feet, Puerto Vallarta has an amazing wealth of fantastic restaurants, lively clubs, beautiful nature and more than 25 miles of stunning beaches. Its a great city that welcomes its guests to enjoy everything it offers, including fine museums, stunning golf courses, and quaint shops.
Puerto Vallarta has an amazing downtown, filled with interesting sites, breathtaking views and of course, delicious cuisine. Whether you choose to stroll along the cobblestone streets or explore every nook and cranny, youll enjoy what it has to offer. Youll get a great view and feel for the city when you make your way to the Boardwalk. On one side youll see the bay and beach as well as fantastic sunsets. On the other, there are shops, nightclubs, cafes and restaurants. The walkway along the Cuale River leads you to quaint shops and nice restaurants as well as a statue of John Huston, director of the 1952 Moulin Rouge, The Night of the Iguana and Annie, just to name a few. The main square in downtown Puerto Vallarta is ideal for a refreshing treat or a place to kick up your heals and take a siesta on a bench, except for on Sundays when the square is used to play live music. Would be hard to have a siesta then. One of the most famous statues in the downtown area is of a Seahorse. Made out of bronze with a rider on its back, the Seahorse is often the stopping point for pictures. The area known as Gringo Gulch became home to may US emigrants, the most famous being Elizabeth Taylor. In fact, Casa Kimberley is the beautiful home Richard Burton bought for Liz back in the 1960s. The home continues to stand today and is open for tours. Although the beaches are reason enough to come, Puerto Vallarta has an impressive array of galleries and museums to give you a break from that fantastic sun. The Galera Dante is a wonderful fine-art museum that has a great collection of paintings and contemporary sculptures. Dont let the size of the Museo del Cuale discourage you from visiting. Although its a small museum, it has a nice collection of ancient objects and interesting exhibits.
At the north end of Puerto Vallarta lies the Marietas, ideal for divers, and the Punta Mita, where all the surfers and golfers go. The south end of Puerto Vallarta is where youll enjoy a wealth of amazing beaches. Los Arcos is filled with fantastic sea life, ranging from turtles to manta rays, dolphins to sharks, making it the place to go for divers. Los Carrizos Beach reflects what Puerto Vallarta was many years ago as it showcases quaint fishing towns. The south end also has the Conchas Chinas Beach, which is home to endangered birds and also has great diving caves and tunnels.
One of the most amazing marinas in all of Mexico can be found in Puerto Vallarta. Appropriately called Marina Vallarta, it has yachts and sailboats, top-notch hotels, shopping, restaurants, and a lively nightlife. If youre not a fan of water youll love its fantastic golf courses, which include the Jack Nicklaus, Tom Weiskopf and Joe Finger Golf Courses.
Choose to soak up the rays, chow down on authentic Mexican cuisine, enjoy a siesta or stroll along the streets. Its a perfect place to enjoy a fantastic getaway.
