Cozumel is the largest island in Mexico and is a well-known diving haven. The people are friendly, the city is charming and the beaches are plentiful. All ingredients for a perfect vacation spot.
Thanks to Jacques Cousteau, the diving in Cozumel is well document… and well explored. The beautiful blue waters are filled with fascinating world-class reefs. There are over 100 diving sites, with the Dos Ojos Cave System as a popular choice. For those who love the water, but have no idea how to dive, have no fear. There are lots of fantastic water activities for you to explore. There's kayaking and windsurfing, swimming with the dolphins and catamaran rides. Or go snorkeling and see some of the majestic life that lives in the ocean.
Not a water lover? No worries for you either. Take in a round of golf, go on an ATV or jeep tour, try out horseback riding, or go shopping - there's lots of great jewelry. Cozumel is also home to many ancient ruins worth exploring as well as the Chankanaab National Park. Explore its botanical gardens and the inland lagoon where you'll find lots of fish and marine gardens. Tours are available but you can choose a jungle path and make your way around on your own. For a bit extra you can have a few amazing experiences here. Go swimming with the Dolphins or Sea Lions. For something a bit different, you can also take part in the Sea Trek Helmet Dive. You'll walk along the ocean floor and wearing a waterproof helmet. It's a great alternative for those who don't know how to dive.
And after a full day of playing in the sun, you should probably grab a nap and get ready for a fantastic nightlife. Eating in Cozumel is a great experience since there are so many options. The bars and clubs are open until the wee hours of the morning (hence the reason for the nap). There's the (in)famous Carlos 'N Charlies or SeƱor Frogs, just to name a few.
Choose to spend your days lying on the beach, exploring the turquoise waters, walking through gardens and ancient ruins or spending a few pesos on some jewelry. Whatever you decide to do, Cozumel is a fantastic vacation spot for those who need to get away from it all.
