Chances are if you are interested in touring Chiapas you are coming from one of the major tourist cities located nearby. This state is located at the southeast corner of Mexico and has the beautiful Pacific Ocean, Guatemala and a few other Mexican states servings as its boarders. Whichever way you come from Chiapas is filled with great sites and ruins for you to enjoy.

The city of San Cristobal de las Casas is filled with history. Learn more about the traditions of the locals as you wander throughout the stunning architecture. Those interested in engineering or modern sites will enjoy this state as well. Although Chiapas is filled with history it has also continued to move towards future methods. Its hydroelectric complex is the largest of its kind in all of Mexico and is a must see for the Popular Mechanics fans.

The main reason why so many come to Chiapas though is to wander through the ruins. The Yaxchilan site is located along the Usamanti River and thus you will need to take a boat to get there… or you could try out your luck and swim. Just keep your eyes open for the wildlife that calls the waters home. Tonina is a site found at the side of a hill and is also worth exploring. Palenque, located in the city of Palenque, is one of the better-known sites and is an easy trip from the city. Hidden treasures are still being uncovered in Bonampak. Although much of it still remains covered the parts that have been found are quite impressive. The murals are in pristine condition and showcase the Mayan history very well.

The history that thrives in Chiapas will keep you enticed during your entire stay. Learning about their past is an amazing way to understand who they are today and so Chiapas provides you with a better understanding about the amazing country of Mexico.
