Guanacaste is well known for its amazing beaches, laid back attitude and beautiful lush forests. Your time here will be balm for your soul, whether you relax on the sand, take part in the many water activities that abound here, explore the beaches or learn about the village and towns.
Along the North Pacific Coast are large beaches that always seem to get the most sun. There are great coves, ideal for exploring and surfing, and the beaches seem to flow from one to the other. Nicoya Peninsula is so secluded that during the rainy season its near impossible to get there. The roads are as basic as they get, but the effort to come here is well worth your time. The isolated beaches are pristine and postcard perfect. Montezuma and Mal Pais are two small villages that are slowly starting to become attractions to visitors in the area. But the attitude here is very relaxed. Once you arrive, take it easy and go with the flow.
One of the most popular destinations in all of Costa Rica is the Monteverde Area. This wildlife preserve is home to more than a hundred species of animals thus making it one of the most amazing wildlife refuges throughout the tropics. Walking through this jungle paradise is an experience not to be missed. Just north of here lies Santa Elena, a small town that borders the Monteverde Conservation area.
Youll hear the Arenal Volcano calling attention to itself throughout your visit. Its constantly active, rumbling and seeping steam out from its top and sides. The benefits of this constant activity are the hot springs that exists around it. Beside the volcano lies Lake Arenal. Its a great place to go fishing, especially for the Rainbow Bass, which are known locally as guapote. The lake is also ideal for those who go windsurfing, as the strength of the wind here is almost legendary.
