It’s the front gate of the Forbidden City and led to the supreme power in imperial times. Within the square are the Monument to the People’s Heroes and the Memorial Hall of Chariman. The Forbidden City was the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Now known as the Palace Museum, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions worldwide.
