Grand Cayman, KY
Chain: Hyatt Hotels and Resorts
Anyone who’s seen the movie “The Firm” staring Tom Cruise and Gene Hackman knows what it’s like to stay at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cayman: white-washed buildings, elegant suites, intricate iron railings, white-sand beaches and a popular pool-side bar. The 289-unit hotel, including 53 suites, is considered by many travelers to be the most luxurious hotel in the Cayman Islands. A facility-wide renovation in 2005 added state-of-the-art touches to the already popular hotel on the island’s stretch of Seven Mile Beach north of George Town. The hotel is part of the expansive Britannia Resort community, which occupies the entire thin width of that part of the island and includes the Jack Nicklaus-designed Britannia Golf Course. Guest rooms are modest in size, but lavish in amenities, with most boasting private verandas or patios and views of the Windex-blue Caribbean. The five restaurants, including the newest, Britannia, and the popular Hemingways, offer comfortable, scenic dining while the Bamboo Lounge is considered one of the island’s best spots to watch the sun set.

The guest rooms come with soft Caribbean-toned décor. Suites are divided into Ocean View and Ocean Front. The ocean view rooms come in one- or two-bedroom versions up to 1,100-square feet in size with dining rooms that seat four or six. The ocean front rooms, just steps from the beach, feature two bedrooms, an additional sleeper sofa, two bathrooms with Italian marble tubs, kitchenette and 680-square-foot terrace. Master bedrooms include an oversized Jacuzzi.
The Hyatt’s amenities, like its rooms and restaurants, aim high. Among the offerings are PDA check-in ability, the usual coffee maker-hair dryer-iron in-room details, fitness center and what is considered by many to be the most complete water sports offerings in the Caymans with the Red Sail Sports marina and a Beach Club right on the sand. Full business services are offered, but high-speed wireless Internet access comes with a $10 per day or $50 per week fee. Computers are available for guests to use for $10 per day, which includes Internet access.
From Owen Roberts International Airport simply follow the signs to Seven Mile Beach and look for the Hyatt after traveling three miles from the airport.
