Bahamas Country Guide

Discovering all that the Bahamas has to offer will take more than just one trip. In fact, considering it comprises of over 700 hundred islands and cays you could move out here and it would still take years to fully enjoy it all. Because it is located near the USA border (about an hour flight away from Florida) it is quite popular with US tourists. Its banking and cruise ship ports are other reasons as well. Although located near the US, you will feel as though you have been transported into another world where you will discover its European heritage. If you are brave enough to drive here just remember that you drive on the left-hand side.

Of the 700 islands and cays, 30 are considered inhabited. Its most popular destinations are the Grand Bahama, New Providence Island and Paradise Island. Why do so many choose to stay here? Well, the top-notch accommodations, shopping, beaches, fantastic nightlife and lucky casinos are only a few of the reasons. Even if you stay at a popular resort town, such as Nassau, you'll still be able to enjoy a tropical getaway. The beaches are fantastic for sunbathing and the shores ideal for snorkeling. Boat enthusiasts love the sailing and yachting experiences. Or, you can watch a famous Regatta race and see how the pros gracefully maneuver over the water. Scuba diving and fishing are also fantastic outdoor activities for you to enjoy.

The Bahamas is known as being a strong religious country and attending a church service here is quite the experience. Just leave the beach gear at home. Here, locals and tourists dress in their Sunday best. Although the Bahamas isn't really known for a specific product you can still do a lot of shopping here. True, prices can be higher but you won't have to bother with exchanging money as US currency is widely accepted. Its close proximity to Cuba also means you can buy some authentic cigars. The markets can be a lot of fun and you never know what treasure you'll come across. Just be prepared to negotiate.

Dining in the Bahamas also helps make your vacation a memorable one. There is an abundance of fresh seafood. Pair that up with the local produce and spices and you'll have a delicious meal. You will find your fair share of fast-food joints but there are a number of restaurants you won\'d5t find anywhere else. The Bahamas is also quite famous for its rum. In fact, you can even take a tour of the Bacardi Rum Factory.

Discover one of the better-known islands or venture out to one of the less popular ones. Wherever you go you\'d5ll find friendly people, great food and world-class beaches.
