The wonderful city of San Juan is surrounded by mountains and lined with wide streets filled with great cafes, restaurants and sites worth visiting. Whether you decide to explore the city, its nature, or both, San Juan is a fantastic place to enjoy a holiday.
Enjoy a wine tour in the beautiful Pocitos neighborhood. Spend a few pesos and make your way up the bell tower of the cathedral for a spectacular view of San Juan and the Andes Mountains. Ever think you’d visit a lake for its lack of water? El Leoncito offers you exactly that. This natural reserve is over 8 miles in length and is a fascinating site to see. It’s a white, dry plain that used to be a lake but is now filled with lines and cracks that seem to mimic a spider’s web. Considering the amount of water that used to exist here it’s ironic that not a single piece of greenery can be seen. Want to see a lake that does have water? The construction of the Cuesta del Viento dam created an unusual landscape that has quickly become a favorite for both tourists and locals. This man made lake is filled with crystal clear water with mountains that line its edges. Inside the lake you’ll find shapes that look like a submerged fortress. The areas that peak out from the water catch the light and reflect beautiful colors. There tends to be a lot of wind here so it’s best to tie back the hair and leave the wide brimmed hats at the hotel. And although there’s wind, there’s also a lot of sun. In fact, the sun shines here almost every day.
