Gonen is a four-star hotel that is located in the Taksim area on the opposite side of Taksim Square from İstiklal. Everything you need is easily accessible from Gonen, as it is located right in the centre of the business district. It is within a short walk of İstanbul’s main shopping bar and restaurant area, Beyoğlu, a short taxi ride from the main historical sightseeing area, Sultanahmet but it has the advantage of being quieter than some other hotels in the main Taksim area. It doesn’t have the charm that some of the boutique hotels in the Sultanamet area have but it is modern, clean, has excellent facilities and is a popular choice among visiting businesspeople and travellers alike. You can choose from one of the three excellent restaurants, one being a rooftop restaurant with a wonderful Bosphorus view; as well as sample some of the fantastic facilities (gym, sauna or hamam).
Does HotelsByCity recommend this hotel?
Gonen consistently receives positive guest reviews. Guests generally rate the facilities highly, especially the pools and outdoor restaurant with their fantastic Bosphorus views and the gym. As far as rooms go, it seems that if space is an issue for you, you may need to upgrade to a suite. Some guests also report problems with traffic noise but this hotel isn’t as noisy as hotels located on the other side of Taksim Square. Some guests also complained a little about the air-conditioning, but also said that the problem was quickly fixed. Gonen is a gay-friendly hotel and also is located quite close to many of the gay venues. Gonen would be a reasonable and cheaper alternative to staying in a five-star hotel, as it is friendly, convenient, and professional.

Rooms in the Gonen hotel are clean, modern and nicely decorated and all contain air-conditioning, LCD TV satellite channels including a football channel, wireless internet and jacuzzi. If you like space, reserve one of the 3 suites, which all have a Bosphorus view and king-sized beds. The rooms can be a little noisy sometimes but not as noisy as hotels located in the main part of Taksim.
Gonen has a nice range of facilities to offer its guests, most of which are free. Guests may take advantage of an indoor or outdoor swimming pool, sauna, Turkish Bath and gym. The pools are clean, the gym is well-equipped with professional trainers, the hamam looks clean and comfortable but the massages are not free. Massages will set you back about 75 dollars, which makes it worth your while to try out one of the more traditional hamams in the old city. There are three restaurants, including one a la carte which serve a variety of Turkish and international cuisines. Also be sure to sample some delicious Turkish ice cream from Mado. Business facilities include meeting rooms for up to 150 people.
From the airport, follow the signs/directions to Atakoy and continue straight along the sea road to Aksaray/Taksim.
If you don’t need to park, it is best to get out of the car/taxi at the Mercedes agency and walk about 30 metres as the hotel is situated on a slightly tricky corner, which means the car would have to turn through a few streets to take you to the front door and it’s not really worth it.
