About the Hotel Ambassador

Written by lindalioness@hotmail.com.View lindalioness@hotmail.com's Blog.

The Ambassador hotel belongs to the special group of boutique hotels that are often found around the old Istanbul area. Previously an Ottoman house built 150 years ago and renovated in 1998, it is renowned for its charm and old-world style. Conveniently located in the old city walking distance from such major tourist attractions as the Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia and the Grande Bazaar, Ambassador makes you feel you are really in the middle of it all but at the same time it has the sort of atmosphere that provides a welcome respite from the throng and carpet shop touts. The best thing about Ambassador is the wonderful views from the dining room but it also has a reputation for having helpful staff who all speak excellent English. In short, it is a 3 - star hotel but with the little extras that will make your stay in İstanbul a little more memorable.

Does HotelsByCity recommend this hotel?

This is a great little hotel. It is rare in Istanbul to find a 3-star hotel that gets everything right but Ambassador guests seem to rate all aspects of it very highly and all for a very reasonable price. This would be an excellent hotel for older travelers due to the professionalism and helpfulness of the staff, who are happy to arrange activities from the hotel. The hotel is also excellent for people who generally appreciate value for money, as it can provide special deals for people who stay four nights or longer such as a complimentary visit to the Turkish bath or Bosphorus tour. Overall it seems to be the pick of the three-star hotels in the Sultanahmet area. Read our customer reviews?

Hotel Ambassador Accommodations

If you are looking for luxury accommodation, then this is not really the hotel for you. Rooms in the Ambassador are middle-sized but cosy, clean and well-furnished; the type of room that gives you a home-away-from-home feel. Standard rooms all have wireless internet connection, air-conditioning, cable television, hairdryers and a mini-bar. Suites also have jacuzzi. Despite the windows being double-glazed, be prepared to wake up at 5am to the sounds of the call to prayer.

Amenities offered

For a small three-star hotel, Ambassador has excellent facilities. It is probably the only hotel of its type to offer a full massage by a qualified masseuse with a selection of massage oils in its traditional Turkish bath and spa. The hotel also has a fitness center which guests can use for free and boasts a great terrace that has probably one of the best views in Istanbul. Take in views of the Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, Marmara Sea and Heybeliada Island while you relax and dine. If you are not feeling particularly energetic, the Lobby Bar can provide cocktails and you can enjoy a late night movie on the big screen.

Directions (view map)

Being right in the center of Sultanahmet, this hotel is very easy to find. You can follow Kennedy avenue to the Kumkapi exit but being only 50 meters away from the tram stop, it is probably best to go by tram and get off at Sultanahmet.
