If it’s luxury in the heart of Istanbul you are after, then it’s difficult to go past the Four Seasons Hotel. Situated between the Topkapi Palace and the Blue Mosque, the hotel offers you excellent access to the main historical sites as well as a welcome respite from the ever-present bustle, noise and touts at the end of the day. Don’t let the fact that this was once an Ottoman prison give you any pre-conceptions about the accommodation because everything about this hotel from the housekeeping to the dessert menu sets it apart from other hotels in the Sultanahmet area. You can expect Four Seasons' usual standard of 5-star luxury but as there are only 65 rooms, the service is a little more personalized. Extra touches like the beautifully-landscaped garden, Sunday brunch and the wonderful Turkish artworks makes staying at Four Seasons Istanbul a memorable experience.

I would definitely recommend this hotel. It is rare to find a hotel in Istanbul that consistently receives good reviews from its guests but this one does. Guests have complimented the service, cleaning, food, facilities and location. The only drawback seems to be that it doesn't have a pool. Be careful also when booking a room if you prefer a room with a view because although the garden and courtyard are lovely, many guests are looking for a view of historical Istanbul and this is only provided with the deluxe rooms. Some guests did say that despite the quality, the meals in the restaurant are a little pricey and with so many great alternatives around Taksim and Beyoglu, you may be better off wandering further afield. Four Seasons Istanbul Accommodations

All of the rooms are tastefully and elegantly decorated following a traditional Turkish theme including artworks from Ottoman and contemporary periods, but with modern conveniences included. Rooms are spacious (between 40-50 meters square for standard rooms and more for suites) and all feature king-sized beds and marble bathrooms. Twice daily housekeeping ensures everything is always clean and fresh. All rooms have a plasma screen TV, CD and DVD player, a writing desk and chair and large wooden-framed windows.

Amenities offered

Four Seasons' facilities are world-renowned. In fact ‘Seasons’, has recently been awarded the 'Best Hotel Restaurant in Turkey' and features an excellent selection of local and international cuisine. In the summertime, you can enjoy eating in the beautifully-landscaped garden. If you are staying in the hotel on a Sunday, make sure you sample the Sunday brunch. Also be sure to take in a massage at the spa. Choose from Balinese, deep sport or aromatherapy. The hotel also has a gym with the latest cardiovascular facilities but unfortunately no pool. Business travelers can have computers, printers and audio-visual equipment can be made available upon request and meeting and board rooms are available.

As you leave the airport, turn right at the first intersection and follow the signs to Sirkici. Turn left at the roundabout with the big fountain and drive along the seaside road for approximately 17 kilometers then turn left at Sultanahmet. At the first railway bridge, turn right and continue until you see the Sultanahmet Mosque. When you approach the T-junction, you will be on Utangac Street and the Four Seasons Hotel will be directly adjacent to you on Tevkifhane Street
