Moscow

The amazing city of Moscow is located along the Moskva River. As the capital of Russia it’s seen a wealth of history. This is a city filled with contrasts. It is not uncommon to see modern architecture that stands alongside the beautiful cathedrals that are centuries old. Simpler tastes in clothing and food are seen beside high-end fashion and the latest culinary delights. Some of its architecture is known around the world, as its history. Today, you’ll be able to enjoy everything Moscow has to offer, whether it’s during the summer or the crisp winter months.

One of the most famous squares in the entire world is Moscow’s Red Square. It dates back to the 17th century and hosted some of the most ornate communist parades throughout its history. The founder of the Soviet Union, Vladimir llyich Lenin, is buried here. Close by is the amazing Saint Basil’s Cathedral as well as the many Kremlin Palaces. The square itself separates the Kremlin and the official residence of the President of Russia. The Kremlin, situated on Borovitsky Hill, overlooks the Red Square and includes a wealth of beautiful buildings, palaces and cathedrals. The Russian President uses the complex as an office, as did other past Russian leaders such as Ivan the Terrible and Stalin. At the center lies Cathedral Square, which is surrounded by buildings and cathedrals. The Great Bell Tower is also worth seeing. Rumor has it that it marks the center of Moscow. The Palace of Facets was built in 1491 and is the oldest structure that is still standing. Here you’ll find the imperial thrones. The very first home for the Royal Family is the Terem Palace. In between these two lies the impressive Grand Kremlin Palace. It cost more than 11 million rubles, which is around $380,000 USD. The Kremlin Wall, complete with stunning towers, was once used to protect the city, continues to enclose it all. It’ll take a full day to explore everything that’s Kremlin.

Moscow has many fantastic towers. In fact, you could spend most of your time exploring them all. Two that are found in Kremlin includes the Spasskaya Tower, with a red star at its peak, stands tall at 71 m and overlooks the Red Square. There are many more towers and half the fun is exploring them all.

Saint Basil’s Cathedral, also known as the Pokrovsky Sobor, is located on the famous Red Square. It’s a fantastic church that was built around 1555 and its architectural design, although not large, is known around the world. You’ll know it by its nine chapels and beautiful colors.

One of Moscow’s highlights is the Pushkin Fine Arts Museum. Whether it’s the Renaissance, impressionist or post-revolution works of art, you’ll enjoy looking at a fantastic display of paintings.
