Located on the island of Malta, the inlet known as Saint Paul’s Bay has been a favorite getaway for decades. Malta itself is a fascinating island lined with cliffs that plunge into the Mediterranean Sea. Its location has been cause for great conflict from the surrounding neighbors. Once you arrive though you too will understand why so many fought to own it.
St. Paul’s rugged shores, fascinating history and friendly people all add to its beauty. It received its name when the Apostle Paul landed here after he was shipwrecked. You can even see where he received his first drink of water at the Ghajn Razul. Other amazing sites include the Roman Road, St. Paul’s Tower and the church of San Pawl Milqghi.
St. Paul’s Bay is known for its rocky shores but it does have some beautiful beaches. A few of its most popular include Mellieha Bay and Golden Bay. The more adventurous can explore the rocks and the sea life that thrives in them. Although the shores are lined with impressive rocks, they are one of the best places to catch some great sunrays. Wander through the harbors and enjoy the Saint Paul’s Bay shops. There are also wonderful places to grab a bite to eat. Keep your eyes open for the local produce as the soil here is rich and thus its fruits and vegetables are full of flavor.

The best way to get around St. Paul’s Bay is to break it up into four quarters. Chances are if you are staying in a hotel it will be in the Bugibba area, which is known as a touristy area. Here you will also find a great selection of cafés, shops and a walkway that takes you along the water’s edge. Another neighborhood quickly gaining popularity is the Qawra, which also has a number of hotels and places to enjoy a meal. Xemxija is known more for the locals who can afford the beautiful summer homes and the Old Town is just that – a historic area that features its own fishing harbor.
Although it started as a tiny fishing village it has come a long way since then. Its population swells during the late summer months when visitors are eager to travel to St. Paul’s Bay hoping to indulge in a little rest and relaxation.

Dont go to Malta, unless you are very old!!Its awful and very little do.The whole island is tired and no money is invested in to cleaning it up!
I have to disagree with Lorraine on her comments I have been travelling to Malta several times a year for the last 15 years. There is so much to do in Malta. St Julians and Paceville for night life Melliha Bay for beaches. Valletta for shoping and so much more. I agree there are a lot of older people that visit Malta but they are mostly long stay through out the winter and who can blame them am sure I would do the same I cant think of a nicer place.( I am 38). Will be going to Malta again at the end of this week and looking forward to it.
add a replyI have to disagree with Lorraine in some respects. My wife and I found Malta a really delightful place to be in the winter. I enjoyed the markets. I enjoyed the walks and culture. It was lovely taking coffee outside in Valetta meeting people. We spent two winter breaks there and will go there again.
Good site! Thank you
